A New Hampshire mother has been banned from praying at her kids' high school.
Lizarda Urena has two children enrolled at Concord High School in Concord, N.H.
She started praying on school grounds in 2011 after two bullets were found in a restroom at the school. Urena said she prayed aloud as students entered the school every morning.
She was recently told by school officials that the prayers were not welcome after someone filed a complaint with the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
"They told me, no, no more," the mother of two said, with tears in her eyes. "I stand up, lift my hands to praise the Lord with my Bible holding and sometimes kneeling."
Urena said said she will continue to pray for the school, just no longer on school grounds.
When my children were young (& yes, they went to public school) I belonged to a 'praying group of moms' and every week we would gather together at one of our homes to lift up the school, our children, the teachers, the administration, the school board, etc.
We also gently insinuated ourselves into the workings of the school......being first to volunteer for events, or helping the teachers....or even taking cookies on special days of the year...to show the teachers and administration we were there to support AND that we prayed for them.
However, if and when there were circumstances that alerted or alarmed us about the school..... the administration would hear us out, and usually take action to correct ....whatever was the problem....because we were visible & they knew we were serious.
We prayed constantly....
...and our little group was actually part of a larger well known praying group in our nation.
I realize schools have changed greatly since my children have grown.....but they need prayer more than ever!
Putting on my asbestos...but I have to say I feel sorry for her kids. Teens can be ugly to one another and having mom (Lizarda?!?) day in day out, creating a scene can’t good for her kids.
I totally agree that she has religious freedom to pra in piblic, but does she believe that her prayers/intentions will not rise up if she does so in a less dramatic fashion?
Go ahead, flame me! I’m a mom, scorch proof!
God will still hear her petition, even if she prays privately - “in a closet,” as Jesus instructed.
I did pretty much the same. Home room mom; field trip chaperone; Library aide; Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. I was always “around” but in a “helpful” (but to me watchful!) way. Youngest is 16 and I’m economically stuck in retail Hell because that was the only type of even parttime job I could hold and be a volunteer.
I have a one year old granddaughter, and my daughter is building a work from home career so she can do the same:)

Scan the first ten amendments. How many are enforced?
Darn few of our enumerated, and just about zero of unenumerated rights are respected. The only ones that are, have citizens willing to secure them.
Scotus excised freedom of religion from the BOR, well, because it could. Since the states booted themselves from the senate, there is no countervailing force to stop scotus.
Exactly. HE knows what is in our hearts!
Paging Jay Sekulow...
NH state motto..’Live Free or Die’. I think that motto is what died instead.
John Adams— Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
If that’s her religion then that’s her religion. It isn’t yours apparently, but the Founders didn’t want to run around policing acceptable religion. They figured we could be adults about it and allow differences that really don’t hurt anyone.
So, if she wants to pray out loud for the kids at the school, then leave her alone. What is it hurting in terms of real injury? All those kids and adults with other views is being subjected to is a study in comparative religions. That’ll probably be good for them in the long run to be able to know some things about other religions.
“It appears that more local Christians are going to start praying on school grounds when indoctrination season ramps up at the end of this month.”
ILLINOIS Comprehensive Sex Education Cirriculum, which is already being taught in some Illinois public schools, is about to become law barring an unlikely veto by Gov. Quinn.

Why pastors, congregations, and parents did not stand against this perverse indoctrination is uncomprehensible.
Jesus prayed in public. Paul prayed in public. Peter prayed in public.
But, this isn’t really about anything other than this woman and you (and others) have different religions.
Would you be more comfortable running around policing government enforced “correct” religious expression, or would you rather just live and let live and consider it a learning experience? That is what the Founders decided....free exercise of religion and no government approved religion.
LOL.
Confronted with her accuser.....that sounds vaguely familiar? /s
Theoretically, our Bill of Rights says that the government cannot establish a state church, and force citizens to attend or adhere to the state religion. The Constitution blocks government intervention in religious matters.
Obviously, this is not well-enforced.
But the "Freedom FROM Religion" foundation is a private organization which is attempting to get the government to stop people from praying.
This is not a question of "we not enforcing the Constitution". This is a war against the practice of religion. The Constitution does not sanction such a war.
This is the correct response. When religious behavior is forbidden by law civil disobedience must be taken up by every Godly believer.
They are afraid of lawsuits? File lawsuits against them. Do not tolerate the obscenity of public officials refusing to allow prayer in public places.
Let there be a dozen more prayer warriors, then a hundred, then a thousand, until the forces of evil are drowned by a flood of Godly power.
What is at stake here is nothing less than the power of good vs the power of evil. These petty officials are too ignorant to realize that this blessed woman’s prayers are keeping evil forces at bay and protecting children from harm. Her faith can stop a thousand demons. What can their godless rules do in the face of consummate evil?
Prohibition of prayer CAUSED Sandy Hook.
No lessons learned
The enemy; pure evil is what powered the Sandy Hook massacer
It’ll happen again
They could get rid of all the guns, theoreretically, and there would still be an evil force allowed in to cause horror.
That’s hoe evil operates.
They deny its existenc.
Big problem
:-) Exactly!!!
“Congress shall make no law regarding an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ...”

“Congress shall make no law regarding an establisment of Christianity, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof unless some sourpuss atheist or pliable bureaucrat objects and the religion in question is Christianity ...”
— Amendment I, Liberal Constitution and Wrapping Paper
They have the right to keep her off school grounds.
But would they do the same thing if it were subhuman savages chanting their pseudo-religious slogans?
