I realize that's a provocative title, but let's face it, as things stand, the third Monday of January would be better used to celebrate grandmothers or our beloved pets. By devoting a national holiday to Rev. King, we're only highlighting the abyss that exists between his hope that we begin judging one another by our character rather than by our skin color and that inconvenient thing called reality.
As we saw during the entire Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman brouhaha, the majority of blacks see everything in terms of black and white. And why wouldn't they when their so-called leaders, including the man in the Oval Office and the fellow heading up the Justice Department, see America in those same myopic terms?
Recently, when the white students at Georgia State University decided to start a White Student Union, judging by the cries of outrage from the usual suspects, you would have thought the Klan was back burning crosses in the middle of the night.
But why is it racist when white students do what black students have been doing for decades? At GSU, the racial breakdown is split nearly 50-50 between whites and blacks, so it's not even as if there's only a tiny handful of blacks who feel they have to cluster together, the way American tourist groups do in foreign countries.
Besides black student unions, we have black dorms, black lunch areas and even black graduations, not because whites are discriminating against blacks, but because blacks don't object to segregation so long as they're the ones doing it.
Imagine the outcry if Caucasian members of the House formed a Congressional White Caucus. But the Congressional Black Caucus has been around for a long time. And the members are so bigoted that when Stephen Cohen, who is white but represents Tennessee's 9th congressional district, which is 59% black and only 36% white, applied for membership in the CBC, he was -- how else can I say it? -- blackballed.
In order to honor and promote their heritage and culture, many ethnic Americans form societies. There are those for Poles, Italians, Armenians, Chinese and, for all I know, even Canadians looking to preserve dullness. But racial groups are generally frowned upon in civilized circles. The mere thought of them conjures up the likes of Nazis, the Klan and the Aryan Nation. But once again, blacks think they should be the exception.
I just can't help thinking that at a point when racism has nearly vanished from the hearts of white Americans, it has taken hold like a giant parasite in the soul of black America. That whirring sound you hear is Martin Luther King spinning in his grave.
Speaking of which, people who keep calling for Eric Holder's dismissal are really beginning to bug me. It seems to me that if your steak arrives burnt and your baked potato arrives raw, you don't blame the waiter; you blame the chef. That's not to say that Holder isn't a lousy waiter. But firing the waiter isn't going to improve the disasters taking place in the kitchen.
As for the chef, he has said he's very disappointed in Russia because they've given political asylum to Edward Snowden. I, for one, say he's got his nerve. After all, he's the punk who leaned over to President Medvedev and told him to tell his master, Vladimir Putin, that (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) he'd be a lot more flexible after he was re-elected.
So, why is anyone surprised that Putin decided to find out just how far a more flexible Obama was willing to bend over in order to accommodate Mother Russia?
Well he isn’t black. With a name like Cohen, he isn’t white either.
Here are some MLK quotes that suggest he'd likely be standing with other black leaders today rather than against them:
We've got to stay together and maintain unity. You know, whenever Pharaoh wanted to prolong the period of slavery in Egypt, he had a favorite, favorite formula for doing it. What was that? He kept the slaves fighting among themselves. But whenever the slaves get together, something happens in Pharaoh's court, and he cannot hold the slaves in slavery. When the slaves get together, that's the beginning of getting out of slavery. Now let us maintain unity.
We must stand up and say, "I'm black and I'm beautiful," and this self-affirmation is the black man's need, made compelling by the white man's crimes against him.
And here are MLK proposals and plans that most Conservatives would likely vehemently disagree with:
The Poor People's Campaign was a 1968 effort to gain economic justice for poor people in the United States. It was organized by Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The Campaign demanded an Economic Bill of Rights with five planks:
1."A meaningful job at a living wage"
2."A secure and adequate income" for all those unable to find or do a job
3."Access to land" for economic uses
4."Access to capital" for poor people and minorities to promote their own businesses
5.Ability for ordinary people to "play a truly significant role" in the government
Change it to Civil Rights Day.
Women were agitating for their equality.
Chicano’s, Latino’s and Hispanics were lobbying.
Farm workers were letting food rot as they asked for what any other worker had.
Blacks were not the only ones arguing for a position in the 60’s.
It’s time to cancel Obama and Obamunism.
I like that idea.
Well, either that or a poll.
Don't try to change the subject. This is America. If someone wants to do a pole dance in response to a national holiday, I say let 'em.
It’s a moronic holiday, made even more so by virtue of the fact that we now celebrate Washington’s Birthday and Lincoln’s Birthday in a lump with all other chief executives on “President’s Day.”
Nearly all Americans, including Conservatives, latch on to King’s famous “content” quote without looking at the totality of King’s other writings and actions — many of which discuss wealth redistribution and guaranteed jobs. Most Americans, including Conservatives, have an almost cartoonish, diety-like image of King. King would likely be taking the same positions as the overwhelming majority of black leaders today.

I totally agree. I recall the MLK speaches before he was killed. They did the same thing that Sharpton’s and Jackson’s rants have done;....stir up the blacks to revolt against whites and normal society.
Basically, no different from when JFK and RFK were killed and everyone totally ignored the sleazy sides of their lives.
I want to see Obama GONE, but not killed. Who wants to see a plethora of streets and schools named for Baraq?

As a Conservative in his district it was fun watching black Dems show their racism when Harold Ford jr decided not to run for this political office...local media tried to ignore it but tune into black radio and you hear the black racism.
“This was so the black people (if they were so inclined) could take “their” day off while whitey stayed and worked. I also took the day off, to publicly “show my solidarity” with them. Drove ‘em nuts because they couldn’t complain about my horning in on “their” day.”
In the southeast it is also Robert E. Lee Day; in a couple of states it is also Stonewall Jackson Day. I view it as a day when I don’t have to work to support welfare parasites; maybe I’ll just call it Martin Luther Day.

Other Americans can see it as a great day to return Christmas gifts if they so choose; my children don’t associate the day off school with any related to “black America”.
MLK is the only person who judging by the ‘content if his character’ is strictly forbidden, as it would destroy his sanitized and ‘glorified beyond recognition’ media created reputation.
In Idaho, this holiday is actually “Martin Luther King, Jr.-Idaho Human Rights Day”.
They pretty much were forced into recognizing something since they were one of the last states to recognize the MLK, Jr. holiday and were getting all kinds of bad press about it.
People actually celebrate this holiday?
News to me and the people I hang with. We kinda scoff at the idea of it and the people that do.
One thing for sure, you better show up for work on “that day” or you catch all kinds of non-PC hell.
But I do believe as a NATION we need to remove it as a NATIONAL Holiday. Never should have been made one in the first place to placate a race.
Thank goodness someone finally got that right. The "content" in "content of character" is awkward and superfluous, used to balance "color of skin." Just one of those phrases that has always bothered me.

Just find some historic figure in Idaho who had a birthday or some other important event around that date, and celebrate that as well (or instead). To have people say we should spend the day “volunteering” or some other nonsense is laughable; they are trying to attach relevance to a character who is increasingly irrelevant. The myth they created had a positive message, but it fell by the wayside decades ago...
One good start would be to remove all questions pertaining to “race” on all government forms. I NEVER answer them unless I check the “other” block and there is a space in which I can write “human.”
During the last census a woman called to ask the race of each person in our household and was rather flustered when I refused to give her an answer.
