Normally when Bishop Samuel Kelsey talks about sodas and candy in July it is in the context of the Vacation Bible School at the New Samaritan Baptist Church in Northeast Washington.
But Wednesday afternoon Kelsey and a host of District community and church leaders listened as Trayvon Martins father talked about the Skittles and tea his son was carrying just before he was fatally shot by George Zimmerman.
What can we do as parents, what can we do as African Americans? Martin asked during the hearing, to ensure that our kids that dont have to be afraid to walk out in front of your house and go to the store and get a bag of Skittles and ice tea?
Kelsey said in an interview that the shooting of Trayvon Martin and trial at George Zimmerman represents the struggles that go on with people young and old in his church. ....
Trayvon represents young African American men around the country who are not caught up in this or that and can not just die, said Kelsey who also took part in a rally in front of the Justice Department where the Rev. Al Sharpton and more than a dozen pastors talked about how Florida would be the battle ground, to fight the Stand Your Ground laws in 30 states.
But Tracey Martin, Trayvons father, said during the hearing that the activity now needs to lead to something permanent.
Fifty years from now, when I am dead and gone I hope that the name of Trayvon Martin name is attached to some type of statue or amendment that says you cant just profile our children, shoot them in the heart and kill them and say you were defending yourself.

Teach your kids not to physically attack someone just because the other person is exercising HIS/HER right of free movement.
I would recommend you teach them not to assault people. Especially people with guns.
Get married. Stay married. Don’t attack others. Don’t use drugs, even ones with legal ingredients. (This is a Christian church, shouldn’t be that hard)
A good place to start would be to quit making excuses for criminals.
The psychosis is just too strong here... that or the money is just too good.
Maybe if they preached obedience to God, they would straighten out.

First, I think he meant “statute” and not “statue”; however, I highly doubt the man knows the difference. Second, why aren’t liberals screaming for this church’s tax exempt status to be pulled?
Re: Posts 2-5: YES! YES! YES! YES!
Also, will we make the IGNORANT LIARS at the MSM understand that Florida vs. Zimmerman was NOT, I repeat NOT, A “STAND YOUR GROUND” CASE!!!!!!!!!
>>Florida would be the battle ground, to fight the Stand Your Ground laws in 30 states.<<
The new laws will be titled the “Take Yo Whupin, Cracka” laws and will only apply to Whites. The “Our Turf n!gga BLAM!” laws will be strengthened.
These so-called ministers need to tell their congregations the following truths:
Fornication is sin. Popping out babies who have 5 different fathers just to get the welfare bennies is fornication, and stealing, because by taking taxpayer money, you are taking something that doesn’t belong to you.
Fighting and murder are sins. Killing people, beat-downs, and trying to run drug gangs do not bring you closer to God.
God loves you, but does not love what you are doing. If you want to be closer to God, quit doing it.
Your misfortunes are the consequence of following the way of the flesh. Follow the way Jesus commanded you, and you will have less misfortune.
I could go on, but it strikes me that they do too much singing in black churches, and not enough of the right sermonizing.
You know what it is; the Trayvon Martin attack on Zimmerman allows these idiots to ignore and deflect any questions of the hundreds of other Black-On-Black murders that occur. They figure if they just keep talking about the bogus “injustice” of Zimmerman/Martin they can continue to ignore the massive number of Blacks dying at the hands of other Blacks.
The George Zimmerman case is all about the facts that a person thinks he/she knows. Different sides have their own lists of facts, and the different facts on the same subject often directly contradict each other.
One side says Zimmerman was told not to get out of his truck. The other side says Zimmerman was not told to stay in his truck.
It is the same down a long list of facts about the case. And the facts one accepts determine what one believes about the case.
“.... you cant just profile our children, shoot them in the heart and kill them and say you were defending yourself.
Wanna bet?
African-American pastors have always always more than worship leaders. Much of the anti-white rhetoric of the black community emanates from black churches. A certain President may have even attended one such church for two decades.
Well you can start by teaching them not to be criminals and thugs, because the rest of us ain't gonna give 'em a pass no matter how much you piss and moan.
And quit trying to hide behind Skittles and Iced tea, you ain't fooling anyone with a brain.
We should’ve picked our own D@MN cotton!
IRS, I KNOW you’re listening to this, and DHS as well. Now, what are you going to do? Tax status needs to be adjusted at a minimum; move to prosecute on inciting violence.
