Yesterday El Fagr reported that, during their most recent phone conversation, U.S. ambassador Anne Patterson demanded that Egyptian General Sisi release all Muslim Brotherhood members currently being held for questioning: “And when Sisi rejected this order, the American ambassador began threatening him that Egypt will turn into another Syria and live through a civil war, to which Sisi responded violently: ‘Neither you nor your country can overcome Egypt and its people.’”

If I were Egypt, I’d order the US ambassador out of the country for presuming to give my country orders. “Orders”? This is “diplomacy”?
Perhaps they meant that Egypt would inevitably fall into civil war like Syria, due to the supression of an important political faction. But when speaking with Arabs, one must bear in mind that they are paranoids’ paranoids, and they saw that as a threat to instigate a civil war by the US, which they are sure was behind the Syrian civil war, and probably is, either intentionally or due to stupidity. But six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Arabic has a number of very “letters” (really symbols) representing different sounds with only very slight differences such as lines or dots.
The influence (to me) of Eqyptian heiroglyphics cannot be discounted.
I think it might be the hardest language to learn to read and write.
