Dershowitz to Newsmax: 'Prosecutorial Tyrant' Violated Zimmerman's Rights
NewsMax ^ | July 14, 2013 | David A. Patten

Famed defense lawyer and Harvard law professor Alan M. Dershowitz is calling for a federal investigation into civil rights violations stemming from the George Zimmerman case — but he says the probe should focus on prosecutorial misconduct rather than on allegations of racial profiling and bias.

Speaking Sunday in an exclusive Newsmax interview, Dershowitz said the jury’s finding that Zimmerman was not guilty of either second-degree murder or manslaughter was “the right verdict.”

He added, “There was reasonable doubt all over the place.”

Immediately after the verdict was announced, however, the NAACP and outspoken activist Al Sharpton called on the Justice Department to launch a federal civil-rights probe, charging that the case had been racially tainted.

Dershowitz is calling for a civil-rights probe as well. But he contends the person whose rights were violated was Zimmerman.

“I think there were violations of civil rights and civil liberties — by the prosecutor,” said the criminal-law expert. “The prosecutor sent this case to a judge, and willfully, deliberately, and in my view criminally withheld exculpatory evidence.”

He added: “They denied the judge the right to see pictures that showed Zimmerman with his nose broken and his head bashed in. The prosecution should be investigated for civil rights violations, and civil liberty violations.”(continued)

The newspapers are still showing the picture of Trayvon as a 12 year old. A lie they just cannot leave alone./ The Justice Department sent people down to stir up the population, What’s with that?

This case reeks But what can you expect from the NAACP and Al Sharpton, Both stay in the money by stirring up the black population. Neither is credible. and Both are racist to the hilt/.

Before nominating him to run with Chris Christie in 2016....

Dershowitz was careful to add that the tragic killing of Trayvon Martin exposes a need to reform Florida laws.

He believes the Stand Your Ground law should be changed because it "elevates macho over the need to preserve life."

He also stated that racial profiling “has to be addressed.”

“I think these vigilante community groups have to be disarmed,” he said. “I don’t think Zimmerman should have been allowed to have a gun.

“He should have been walking around with a walkie-talkie and calling the police,” he said. “It’s the job of the police to investigate and apprehend suspects based on their professional training.”

But the need for future legal reforms had no bearing on the Zimmerman trial, Dershowitz said, and insisted the case should never have reached a jury.

On this particular issue I happen to agree with Dershowitz, but there are about a bazillion where I don't.

I can tell you how crazy and incompetent Dershowitz is; he once said the right to abortion cannot be found in the U.S. Constitution. Crazy, huh?

Dershowitz did mess up on one point re disarming vigilante groups and saying GZ should be disarmed.

Neighborhood Watch group policy is the the team members should not be armed while on patrol. On the night of the incident GZ was not on patrol. He was a private citizen with CCW on his way to his regular Sunday night shopping at Target.

yep ... Dershowitz not only understands the law and constitution (most of the marxists like obama and holder do, BTW) ...

the difference is that Dershowitz RESPECTS the constiution ...

whereas obama and his "lap-dog" eric holder DESPISE the constitution.

Dershowitz is a Liberal, but not a Marxist nor a totalitarian like so many on the Left.

I would shake his hand if I saw him.

GOYAKLA ~:" The State Prosecutors BDLR and Guy both, in Court told the Jurors the event was not about race.
Ms.Sybrina and Crump, also said the same thing.
Would that be considered Perjury if they now testified it was now a race issue?"

The video record , and sworn testamonies would be intoduced in court as evidence against them ; it would result in perjury charges !
Despite the bias of the Judge for the prosecution , this was a "Self Defense" case ,
and not a "Stand Your Ground " case that the NAACP wanted ,so .. let it go !
There still is the outstanding issue of prosecutorial malfeasance, and obstruction charge by Corey ,et al. that needs to be addressed !

OMG this is hilarious. Dershowitz just told Huckabee when he first critisized Corey after she took the case, she called Harvard Law School demanding Dershowitz apologize publicly!!!!

She is a piece of work!

Dershowitz is terrific, frankly. About 10 years ago he started that group FIRE to protect students from university administrator tyranny (university laws that violate the Bill of Rights, etc). I couldn’t believe it, then, but it’s a great group and they win a lot of cases. He spoke out about GZ several weeks ago. I am glad he spoke out again. I would like to see him step in as GZ’s lawyer if Holder does anything further - Holder will be wetting his dydees.

I scrolled down the thread to see if anyone else was going to comment upon the latter part of the article. Apparently it was buried too deeply for most.

Dershowitz was careful to add that the tragic killing of Trayvon Martin exposes a need to reform Florida laws.

He believes the Stand Your Ground law should be changed because it "elevates macho over the need to preserve life."

1) Dershowitz is completely wrong. The "SYG" law had nothing whatsoever to do with this case. This was a matter of centuries-old common law self-defense.  His comment shows he's attempting to use this case to further his leftist ideology on subjects that are not germane.

He also stated that racial profiling “has to be addressed.”

2) there is no evidence that "racial profiling" had anything whatsoever to do with the case.

“I think these vigilante community groups have to be disarmed,” he said. “I don’t think Zimmerman should have been allowed to have a gun.

3) Typical leftist POV

“He should have been walking around with a walkie-talkie and calling the police,” he said. “It’s the job of the police to investigate and apprehend suspects based on their professional training.”

4) Zimmerman wasn't walking around anywhere. He wasn't patrolling. He was driving to target, and happened to notice someone acting suspiciously.  Dershowiz, not apparently not noticing the irony in the observation that when seconds count, the police are only minutes away,  also seems to  believe that Zimmerman should have just died from having his head pounded into the sidewalk rather than be able to defend himself.

But the need for future legal reforms had no bearing on the Zimmerman trial, Dershowitz said, and insisted the case should never have reached a jury.

5) He's absolutely right about this, but shows his ignorance of the actual facts of the case at hand by his comments above.

I hope he means what he said about representing him pro-bono because he will need it. Persecuting people like Zimmerman is why Obama was elected president by 96% of black people. They thin the government is their way to get something back, from which they’ve contributed nothing to.
