Carla Cheney, a former Walmart employee from Kemptville, Canada, claims she was fired for alerting a customer that he shouldn't leave his dog in a hot car.
On Wednesday, shortly before beginning her shift, Cheney saw the customer put his Newfoundland—a large breed with a heavy black coat—in his truck and roll up the windows, reports the Ottawa Citizen. Cheney, who worked in the Walmart pharmacy, called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and later confronted the dog owner after he left the store, telling him that "he should not be leaving his dog in the car." He responded that it was none of her business.
Later that day, Cheney was called into her the office of her manager... The manager then told her she was fired...
Some estimates put the number of dogs that die each year from being left in a hot car in the thousands.
The Chicago Tribune reports that on an 85-degree day, the dashboard can heat up to 170 degrees in a mere 15 minutes.

I suspect it was the confrontation with the owner. It probably was not handled well.

I suspect no matter how well he handled it the owner would have complained.
Lately I have been hearing a great deal of negative reports about Walmart.
Maybe had she just left it with call the SPCA or Police there would be no problem, but she felt she had to confront the dog owner also. I applaud her calling in the case of abuse but she felt she had to be righteous in his face.
Why do you suppose that is?
Agreed. Citizens should always involve the authorities whenever they see anything, no matter how minor.

Cheney said that after the manager listened to her side of the story and asked if she would come to him with any problems in the future — she said she wouldn’t because of his earlier inaction on the same issue — the manager told her she was fired.
When she asked once again to be told why she was fired, he said she was fired for being rude to a customer, Cheney said.”
Seems like she was told by the manager to come to him first instead of confronting the customer, and she said she would not...
IF she wanted to really help the guy out instead of “report him”, she should have told him when she saw the dog in there, before he went into the store, “Hey, do you know you forgot to roll down your windows so your dog can handle the heat better?”
Simple helpful reminder instead of official snitch and bitch.
“The associate in question was absolutely not let go for trying to help a dog in a locked car,” the statement reads. “The decision to dismiss an associate is one that we take extremely seriously and must follow a comprehensive process. However, out of respect for the associate and for privacy reasons we cannot provide specifics about why this associate was let go.”

Walmart is on the liberal fecal matter list because they aren’t union, and are profitable, and are following the rules to avoid ObamaCare.
Granted, this happens to be a Canadian store, but the story can still be used for propaganda purposes.

Leaving a dog in a car (with free water) where the interior temp is below 100 deg F will not kill the dog.
It used to be considered not only normal, but commendable, for citizens to speak directly through each other, and not dashing off to this government employee or that to tattle or snitch.
I think the employee’s attitude of saying the owner shouldn’t do something was the issue. I get irritated when people inform me of something in a manner that acts as though I am beholden to follow any and all orders they give me.
I think the appropriate manner for the employee to do this would have been, “Excuse me, I noticed your dog is inside a car on a hot day, did you forget to let one of the windows down a little?”
That said, the customer should not have reacted how he did.

On a hot summer day temperature inside a car can be much higher than the outside temperature.
