"Embattled IRS official Lois Lerner will not testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee unless she’s given immunity from prosecution, her lawyer told POLITICO Tuesday."

Darrell Issa should tell Lois Lerner that she'll honor a subpoena or be held in contempt after waiving her Fifth Amendment rights with her little grandstand play.

Put her on the witness stand. If she doesn’t talk, jail her for contempt and leave her there until she does.

It’s time to play hardball with this witch.

re: ““They can obtain her testimony tomorrow by doing it the easy way … immunity,”

Whoa! No one asks for immunity unless they’ve got bad stuff they’ve been doing. I’ve seen enough 24 episodes to know that.

I say give it to her. It’s the information and the truth we want. If it turns out she received direction from above, then we got something.

don’t give her immunity until they find out what she knows

If they give her Immunity and then she says “I confess- it was all my plan to target Tea party groups” then they have nothing.

This chick is dumber that I originally thought.

Let’s see here...what are the chances of finding a disgruntled current or ex IRS employee who knew and saw everything and will be happy to put this moron away?

“close enough for government work”

Unfortunately it seems like the only option. What else is Issa gonna do? Lock her up in the Capitol Jail and turn her into a martyr? She'll gladly clam-up and spend a year or more in there, knowing what rewards and treasures await for keeping omerta

I’ve never understood why the 5th amendment is even an option in situations like this. She’s a public employee and her bosses want answers to their questions.

Imagine if your boss asked you if you had completed a job and you told him that you didn’t want to answer.

“They can obtain her testimony tomorrow by doing it the easy way … immunity,” William W. Taylor III said in a phone interview. “That’s the way to resolve all of this.”

Is this the same idiot lawyer who allowed Lerner to make a statement and thereby waive her 5th Amendment rights in the first place??

That’s a nice salary she’s drawing from the US Taxpayers while she’s on leave. Be a shame if she wasn’t getting paid anymore. Why, I’ll bet that big shot lawyer wouldn’t run his mouth so much if he was working for free.

Standard issue political lies. No one took that seriously from the very start. This is pretty significant because if granted immunity she would have to give full testimony, and under the treat of having the immunity revoked if she is found out to be lying.

She could very easily end up being the most damaging witness against the Obama administration to date. If she ties him directly to the anti-Tea Party IRS efforts even the Dems will have to call for Impeachment. It would have to be more than her word, of course, but the very fact that she is demanding immunity says that she has something she is willing to sell.

I really hope she has good security. This could get interesting.

She has already effectively waived her right to the 5th.

She has no power to negotiate. The gambit is to secure sympathy.

It is amazing how many people get sucked into this, no matter how many times the Democrats do it. She isn’t going to say a thing, she is a Democrat (communist) and therefore down for the cause. Immunity will simply peak public interest, while she goes before the committee and says nothing we don’t already know. The result will be as usual, the Republicans will look silly, and remaining public support for the investigation will be written off as fringe.

Lovely woman. She says she’s innocent, doesn’t know anything, and pleads the fifth.

And now she wants immunity before she testifies. She knows plenty.
