To be fair, someone should have explained to the ditz that they were celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. She probably didn’t have a clue what the hell she was doing there.

Almost all of my reading is in the non-fiction/history area. I have never read one of this idiot’s books and do not intend to.

This is what she was hired to do. DKG is not a civil war historian so why else was she picked to do the keynote? Her political views and celebrity.

I went to a funeral for a fairly influential... well, let's just say "a member of the academic community." His wife is extremely liberal (she made her husband look conservative by comparison).

At two points during her eulogy for her husband - in front of roughly 150 mourners - she absent-mindedly allowed herself to stray off the topic of the day onto left-wing politics. She simply could not help herself.

In each case, she caught herself after a few seconds and got back to the subject of her deceased husband, and his life and times.

I'm not sure, but I think one of her children - seated in the front row, where I couldn't see them) may have given her some kind of signal to keep politics out of it.

Well what did they expect her to say? Sheesh, who chose her to do the keynote, anyway? Should have treated her like a valedictorian - reviewed remarks and cut the mic when she strayed.

History Channel REALLY pushed her talk. I started to listen, then turjned the witch off. As a Civil War Student and History Buff, her talk was insulting to the place, the occasion and the men who suffered and died there.

I’ll never waste my money on one of her books.

She is an historian but wasn’t she fired for plagiarizing?

Doris Kearns Goodwin, Liar
First she plagiarized. Then she claimed it wasn't plagiarism.

I watched the whole Gettysburg coverage on C-SPAN 3, but when she started her rambling speech (almost without taking breaths) about her love affair with all the things that DID NOT apply to this solemn historic occasion (LBJ, etc., etc., etc.) I shut her off. What a horrible disgusting way to end what had been a wonderful overview of a major Civil War battle. Lest anyone forget, it WAS the Democrat Party that wanted slavery to live on. To the persons involved in inviting her to speak, I say "screw you!"

Most liberal’s speeches are truly awful. I once attended a graduation ceremony at Boston College were Cokie Roberts gave the commencement speech. It was mostly inappropriate, boring and at sometimes insulting and self serving. You see liberals live within speech codes and topics deemed inapropriate and pre-approved subjects. Their whole world is group think or whatever the New York Times editorial board said. They can’t think or speak off the cuff as they may offend their leaders and be outcast (especially if they come from a “privillaged” class). They also don’t truly believe in a lot of what they say. They are mostly college freshman or phd candidates writing a composition to impress the proffesor gods. Goodwin just re-hashed her old speeches that were deemed acceptable by the p.c. crowd since she obviously didn’t prepare for this engagement.

She is *not* a historian. She is a “historical writer”, which basically means “more or less historical fiction”. In addition, she is a known plagiarist and decided radical liberal.

Whoever invited her to speak at the Gettysburg anniversary has Lucky Charms for brains. They might as well have invited “Reverend” Louis Farrakhan or Medea Benjamin of Code Pink.

DKG is a plagiarist and Lincoln idolator. The Lincoln idolator part will carry a so called “historian” far in this country.

Professor DORIS KEARNS GOODWIN was one of the 400 historians and academics that took out a full page add in
the NEW YORK TIMES that said a blow job is not an impeachable offense.

Why anyone with any shame or conscience or honor would listen to anything this b!tch would say is beyond me.

She spent the waning years of the last millennium hitting every news show she could protecting Slick Willie’s Willie.

I was at the commemoration. It was to say the least a very uncomfortable time. She barely mentioned Lincoln or Gettysburg, but talked almost exclusively about her other three books. It was JFK and LBJ who were the movers of the modern civil rights movement. The only reason the republicans and Everret Dirkson went along was because LBJ bribed him with political perks. She talked about how she and Hillary Clinton went looking around the white house at 2 am looking to find the room that Winston Churchill slept in. Barely a word about Gettysburg, barely a word about Lincoln. At the end of it there was a smattering of applause. I sat on my hands as did the person next to me. I asked him what he thought of the speech and he said one word “obnoxious”. Then he added. I guess according to her, only democrats do good things for the country.
