A plan to strengthen border security measures in the bipartisan immigration bill easily passed the Senate Monday.
In a 67-27 vote, 15 Republican senators joined most Democrats to end debate on an amendment by GOP Sens. Bob Corker of Tennessee and John Hoeven of North Dakota.

McPain’s mother is still living, I believe.
There was an old conservative anti-communist firebrand named Dan Smoot who said the same thing in 1970 about a certain senatorial candidate named George Herbert Walker Bush in TX. But no one would listen even though GHWB lost the general election that year to “Lord Benson”.
But in TX they are poised to launch the fourth generation of bushes — George P. for land commissioner.
SC does still have a runoff though; so if the SC voters understood Graham’s record he might could be toppled. The problem is the voters — too uninformed and too “incumbent friendly”.
TN got it right once, when they voted against Lamar! in 1974, but instead they chose a really bad man for governor who I believe had serious legal matters.
Lamar! could be jealous of the attention Corker is getting on open immigration. People in TN are so uninformed they know neither’s record. They should bring back Davy Crockett.
On a brighter note, I was pleased to hear Ted Cruz call the afterthought border security half-measures a "fig leaf." Really, it was like of a sugarcoat on a poison pill: give us amnesty for illegals, and we'll pay some lip service to securing the border. Talk about closing the gates after the vandals have already overrun the place.
We don’t have a 2 party system. We have a political class constituted from a duopoly and collusion by the dems and repubs.
My bet is that the repubs decided to pass this, and 14 members were chosen/ assigned to vote with the dems. (safe seats/time until re-election/retirement plans)
Not Voting - 6
Brown (D-OH) Chambliss (R-GA) Enzi (R-WY)
Isakson (R-GA) Lee (R-UT) Udall (D-CO)
I think you’re right about needing to have an endorsement from Cruz. To late to run a campaign against Cornyn? May all depend on how many candidates are in the mix and if we end up having a run-off. Cruz had some benefit in that he was not running against an incumbent.
Cornyn now has at least six offices scattered all over the state and a whole lot of money in his war chest. He is in line to be number one Republican in the Senate and he, like McCain and the rest of the old dogs, will never go quietly.
Enormous fools one and all!
The best way for a ruling elite to hold onto power is to create the false illusion of pluralism and choice. With rare exceptions, Democrats and Republicans stand for the same things. Most of their differences are about inflated rhetoric and matters of emphasis rather than substance.
The same interest group can hold onto power in spite of a shift from R to D every 4 to 8 years. When things get bad, people blame the R and replace it with a D, and vice-versa, not realizing that they are switching teams under the same management.
Nothing makes this sham more clear than the current "bipartisanship" on amnesty for illegals.
Yep, I'm disappointed, especially since he said he was against amnesty. I was hoping we'd get at a Norm Coleman type in there to undo some of the damage Lautencorpse had been doing in that seat. Of course, if I was appointed as a seatwarmer in NJ and didn't have to worry about the RAT machine destroying me in the next election, I'd say screw it and vote like Jesse Helms just to leave a "legacy" in the few months I was there.
>> Roger Wicker is a crapstain, he makes that old bull Thad Cochran look good in comparison. Just reelected was Wicker. <<
Another couple of squishes that don't receive nearly as much attention as they should on FR, because they keep a low profile in Washington DC and don't say much. The Mark Kirk apologists here who whine about how we should "focus on RINOs in RED states!!!" will ignore their own rule and give those turds a pass, just like they did with John Thune. Then they're wonder the next year why nothing conservative ever passes the Senate.
The squeaky RINO gets the grease, people go so far as to support a democrat against Lineseed Graham.
And the quiet squish is either ignored (Wicker) or trumpeted for Vice President (Thune) despite being in solid GOP states.
Someone should tell Lineseed to STFU, he could then get away with anything.
Hell Susan Collins isn’t bashed as much as McCain and Lineseed, 2 men well to her right, cause she keeps her trap shut most of the time and doesn’t introduce legislation!
When looking who to primary we should turn a light on the backbenchers as well as the leaders.
