Thanks expat_panama!
expat...thanks for maintaining this thread. Weekly is fine with me. A forum is needed for us Freeper financial geeks to communicate. And this is a good place.
u bet!
am thinking I can do a daily ping on this weekly thread, maybe w/ an update. Now that I got the ping list on a spreadsheet (all 86 names) I can make 2 of ‘em, one for the daily & one weekly.
Until I can get someone else to do this for me instead...
S&P 500 Index | 1,629.90 | + | 11.5 |
Nasdaq 100 | 2,962.00 | + | 25 |
Careful — that’s not relative to the NY close, which was about 1626. It opened at 1618 on NY Globex at 6 PM last night.
hmmm, learn something new every day...
What do you think of gold/silver miners at these levels? Avoid, ease into it, or bet the ranch?
this site has sector ranking and they got metal mining way low. prec. met. mining didn't show up on my watch list for this week, this is what came up on top for me this week--
Apparel/Accessories
Biotechnology & Drugs
Business Services
Chemical Manufacturing
Chemicals - Plastics and Rubbers
Communications Services
Computer Services
Electronic Instruments & Controls
Investment Services
Restaurants
Retail (Home Improvement)
Retail (Specialty Non-Apparel)
Schools
Semiconductors
Software & Programming
I’m in the miners. I hold a core position but I trade a percentage to make some “juice”. Because of their volatility you can easily have some good sized swings. Buy on the dips and sell on the rips. And keep the core.Cheers.
weekly thread will do the trick
yeah, I’ll just re-ping everyone unless they want ‘monday-only-pinging’.
Looks like the HFT’s “start swinging wildly just before the 2:15 announcement” algorithm is off by a day or two.
just posted (not by me) on a site where they’re bearish on everything all the time:
“Finally, the three charts below show Gold, GDX and GDXJ. Aint nobody happy (expect the bears) on these charts. The miners, including the juniors, are showing signs of pausing their decline and they are certainly close to the short stop line. But there are no buy signals in gold or the miners. Yet anyway.”

prec. metal mining’s done well for me in the past, and the sector will most probably do well in the future some day. atm though there are sooo many good choices out there...
Futures up (as off 2 hrs before opening).
Freepmail me if anyone who wants on or off the daily (and/or weekly) pinglist.
We will see how this squeeze play pans out on financials once banks have to start paying more on CD's and Bonds than all their "refi" debt that they have incurred en masse.
If this trend continues, watch for a another bailout (handout) spree in 2014. I guess Bungling Ben and his QE# flying circus will have double down on his trillion dollar a year paper making machine. All signs point toward an inflationary economy, no matter what the mircocosmistic news tells you.
