A rare blue lobster was caught in waters near Antigonish on Friday.
According to research based out of the University of Maine, the odds of catching a blue lobster in North America are about one in two million. The blue coloration is caused by a genetic defect that causes the lobster to produce an excessive amount of a particular protein that gives the lobster the unique color.
Sheldon Trenholm of South River, N.S. was the lucky lobsterman who caught the brilliant blue crustacean near Monks Head.
Trenholm said at first he didn't know what it was thrashing in the trap with seven or eight other lobsters.
He took a few pictures, showed a few friends and then he threw it back because the lobster was too small to keep.
DH and I just about split our guts laughing over your comment! Four thumbs up!!!
Visited Newfoundland several times growing up. My cousins and their friends would swim in the ice cold water. I couldn’t handle even just standing in it up to my ankles.
Well, I ate a dozen of his brilliant blue bros and they left a really terrible... aftertaste--
Or it could have been the 30 or 40... Blue Curacao Margaritas I drank with em--
Next time you go to the store and see Phillips crab meat on sale , read the label, it doesn’t come out of the Chesapeake.

Phillips crab meat is harvested from the tropical waters of Southeast Asia, cooked, hand-picked and pasteurized at Phillips’ own crab processing plants under the strictest quality control.
Only in Orwellian America is a RED called blue.
The stupid lies with our side that refuses to use the Orwellian changeroo.
Just wait till you drop him in the pot.......he’ll be RED ALL OVER!........
Oh, don’t worry, I always look for the source of seafood for sale. Has to be USA processed and wild caught for me to buy it.
Now that is an anti-bluish rant... if I ever heard one!
Really? I think Pharmboy is kinda cute... for a white boy--
