(Newser) The Boy Scouts of America's decision last month to allow gay members was made with the blessings of many churches and religious groupsbut not all of them. And here's a pretty significant opponent: The Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in America with 45,000 congregations and 16 million members, says it will now urge its followers to leave the Scouts, reports CNN. The Boy Scouts says Baptist churches currently sponsor nearly 4,000 units, containing more than 100,000 kids.
The Southern Baptist Convention will vote on a resolution to disaffiliate with the Scouts this month, and a spokesperson says he expects 99% of people to vote in support of it. "Southern Baptists are going to be leaving the Boy Scouts en masse," he says.

I suspect they did the same to the Jerry Lewis Telethon (with help from other liberal groups).
They even went as far as calling in pledges to “surpass” what Jerry Lewis ever raised yet failed to actually send in the pledged money. It on public record that they did not even come close to what Jerry Lewis raised.
My Grand Son will never join Boy Scouts now.
No Christian Church supports Homosexuality, just like no Muslim is moderate. Its a scripture thingie.
I agree with your assessment here, but I see little chance of that happening in this case. I wish it were otherwise.
I don't understand what you mean by "there will need to be a demand for the re-occupation of a 'new" OLD Boy Scouts by principled former scout leaders."

Both are good Boy Scout alternatives...one is from a religious point of view, but they DO have the camping/fishing, etc. aspect. (Royal Rangers)
On My Honor is a group of Boy Scouts who opposed the pro-sodomite agenda, fought it, and lost...now they are planning, I believe, to begin a new organization—kind of a REFORMATION of the Boy Scouts, if you will...and since their “95 Theses” have been rejected by the hierarchy, they will begin anew.
That's the beauty of Free Republic - accepts no outside funding so it is impervious to external pressures.
Well, as it’s been mentioned here, time to start the Junior Militia Movement for these youngsters.
Sadly, I believe this goes much deeper than just the homos trying to destroy the Boy Scouts. Here was an organization that instilled in boys and young men a sense of duty to god, country and family. Things that have been in the cross-hairs of communism for a long time.
Good for the SBC
They are doing the right thing in disassociating with this filth
Yes, the girl scouts are all into radical leftist causes, free sex, abortion and crap
For any who don't know, the Southern Baptist Convention is not any sort of ruling body. They take positions and pass resolutions, but each SB church functions with a great deal of independence. Most will probably leave BSA, but not all.

I hope more do this than those numbers. The Boy Scouts of America has a population of 2.6 million this year.
This is so f’ed up. The military academies look favorable on applicants who are Eagle Scouts and even put some emphasis on it. Destroying Boy Scouts is going to hurt boys all through life. Why they couldn’t just say no to the gay agenda. Those 3 companies that were going to pull their support could not be replaced by 3 other companies???????
I wonder how the Southern Baptists will react when the homos try to force their way into their churches? How will the courts react then?
Boy Scouts ping!
Freepmail Albion Wilde to be added or deleted from Boy Scout pings.
We really need to take back the rainbow. It was God’s sign to Noah and to us.
The leadership got taken over by a bunch of politically correct limpwrists.
In some respects that kind of thing is already happening. As the bible predicts great apostasy in the end times, I think more and more of this will be happening, on greater scales and in greater frequency. Now please excuse me as I go out & hurl...
My oldest son was a Royal Ranger, daughter was in missionettes.
