Ammo purchasers in California must submit to background check, pay $50
American Thinker ^ | June 1, 2013 | Rick Moran

This California proposal that will probably become law is going to be very popular in pro-gun control states.

LA Times:

Californians who want to buy ammunition would have to submit personal information and a $50 fee for a background check by the state, under a bill passed by the Senate. The state Department of Justice would determine whether buyers have a criminal record, severe mental illness or a restraining order that would disqualify them from owning guns.

Ammo shops would check the name on buyers' driver's licenses against a state list of qualified purchasers.

The goal of the bill is "to ensure that criminals and other dangerous individuals cannot purchase ammunition in the state of California," said Sen. Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles), author of SB 53.

The vote was 22-14, with a few Democrats joining the Republican minority in opposition.

Sen. Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) said, "We are criminalizing legal, historic behavior in the state of California and putting onerous burdens and regulations and requirements on law-abiding citizens."

The Senate also OK'd a bill that would outlaw the sale, purchase and manufacture in California of semiautomatic rifles that can accommodate detachable magazines. The measure, SB 374 by Steinberg, also would require those who own such weapons to register them with the state....

With the scarcity of ammo, I’d be tickled spitless to be able to FIND 1000 rounds every 30 days.

I live in California so have been through them more times than I can count. Yes it is to stop pests from coming in on fruits and vegetables (supposedly). They do NOT have the authority to search your car without a warrant. We still have that law. They can act however they want but you gave them permission or they wouldn’t have.
When stopped coming in from anywhere you just answer no to their questions. Period. If they don’t like it........get a warrant.

I was stupid and naive enough to simply accede to their demands, as we were completely taken by surprise..

All I can say is wow! I thought I was in another nation guided by the rrule of law.

Well colour me surprized by the attitude and arrogance of the “public servants involved.

Btw, there was only one “AMISH” involved, and he stayed FAR away from the dog

There is a side of me that says abandon CA.

Just move away. Get the hell out of Dodge.

There is another side of me that says, defend the Republic - even if you are in the minority.

The last thing I want to see is a bunch of pussies from CA moving into other states that are not willing to stand up for their rights. It just makes other states weak and the union weaker.

If the good folks from CA can't stand up to the fags, liberals, baby killers and gun grabbers then what can you expect when they move to your state. Support Patriots in CA, if there are any. (We know where JimRob stands.)

And to think, back in 1982 the voters of Cali turned down Proposition 15 which would have banned handguns in California.

Since that time the politicians have been working overtime trying to find a way around the will of the voters.

I have read that Cali is also going to make ALL semi-auto rifles with detachable magazines ILLEGAL in the state. This includes those with the “bullet button” type of magazine.

Soon the only firearm that a person will be able to use for protection will be a matchlock muzzle loader.

$50 to vote.

$50 to protest in the streets.

The gloves need to come off with these a-holes. Time to stop playing nice and to start taxing things they supposedly love.

That was kinda my second thought. A $50 for a permit to buy what?! Right now would be easier to find a Vulcan ukulele strung with unicorn hair than a box of 9mm.

I understand your flip-flopping, but California is unique.

Until recently, it was all good.

Good weather. Good business. Good fun. Safe. Clean.

You name it, that’s what California was.

Now it’s slowly falling apart business-wise. But there are still so many things about California which will attract illegals and keep leftists, I think there won’t be a mass exodus from the state.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think everyone else is safe.

I predict 1000 rounds every 30 days.

I would like to see you find 1000 rounds anywhere near California, or for that matter Oregon, an Open Carry must issue state.

Liberals think 100 rounds can kill 100 people. I have heard them call 1,000 all kinds of names.

Leos fire a couple thousand rounds during the Boston Boming and didn't kill anyone. The loan fatality was a victim of his brother's car.

Since December, my local WalMart here in Maine NEVER had any 9mm ammo. Once, I saw two boxes of 9 mm on the shelf, but that was just one time.....

.....until last Thursday, when I saw FORTY (40) boxes of 9mm ammo on the shelf. There was a three box limit.

I also saw one box of .38, one box of .44, and one box of .357. I was pleasantly surprised.

You under-counted the 4th and 5th... and 6th. And 9th and 10th.
FedGov slaps a LOT of “undocumented restrictions” on those.

I don’t know. All I know is the thugs with badges were adamant we get out of the car. They wouldn’t even let us smoke outdoors while they ran the dog through the car.

Bullies and cowards all. A 70 y/o woman and me held for no legitimate reason by “persons of authority”.

It made me more than a little cross...
