NBC Washington ^ | 5/29/13 | Mila Mimica |

A woman handing out pizza samples at a Virginia Costco was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies Wednesday afternoon after she began acting strangely and came at the officers with a weapon, authorities said.

A sheriff's deputy also was wounded in the leg, possibly by a ricochet. He is expected to recover.

The melee began at about 3 p.m., when store employees noticed the woman acting oddly at the Costco in Sterling, Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said. Witnesses said she seemed upset about the pizza she was handing out.

Yeah the cops in this nation have a very very good record for only shooting those people who deserve it. /s

So... in a case like this, a woman attacking police officers with a knife (and threatening civilians as well) if there weren't any LEOs, what would you do? If this were in your hands, how would you handle it? Run up to the knife and take it in your torso? I doubt it.

There are other options you know. Pepper spray is one.

A cop who can’t disarm a woman with a knife without shooting her to death shouldn’t be on the force

Really? A woman who'd already been shot with a stun gun, and it had no effect? And was swinging a knife around?

What do you suggest the LEO do? Try to tackle her or take her from behind while she's wielding a knife? Have you ever tried to do that? Have you ever been trained to do that? It's not nearly as easy as you seem to think it is.

Really? How about a tazer? Would that be good, if they used a tazer first? You'd be okay if they did that?

Well, read the article, cop hater, they did.

And, incidentally, locally the police did pepper spray a person recently. He was high on "wet" and kept his mouth open and do you know what happened? His throat swelled up and he died. I'll bet you'd be blaming the LEOs in that situation if you'd read about that too.

Cut the swagger. It is incumbent on your community to repair the damage done to public trust. You guys are the tip of the spear for big Gubment. I will oppose your funding at every oppurtunity that presents itself,

Fix yourselves, and keep your arrogant union thug snickering to the locker room. Once again, fix yourselves and change the culture of law enforcement. But as you, and your community of law enforcement don’t see a problem, nothing will change.

And if there was one around all the time to prevent problems, would you be okay with that?

A LEO standing in front of your house at all times? Making sure you didn't break any laws? Maybe they could come into your house and check your light bulbs and the setting of your thermostat?

Or, maybe it'd just be better to put a black box in your car, a red light camera at every intersection, and speed cameras along every mile of interstate. Is that what you're advocating?

LEOs are there to RESPOND to dangerous situations. They're not meant to hover over a free people, watching their every movement. They're also not magical fairies hovering above every human interaction, ready to intercede when something goes wrong.

For Christ's sakes, grow up.

>> “Let’s stick with your original assertion, the police officer ought to die” <<

.
You mean let’s stick with your insane strawman posting?

Can’t you do better than that?

.
Nobody should have died; there was no need for that. Stop kissing killer-cop’s asses, ok?

Since you admit that you don't know the first thing about the LEO community, I don't think you're qualified to speak about the "culture".

Fact of the matter is, there isn't a profession that has a higher representation of veterans than LE.

I'm pretty confident that you've never served in any capacity, or you'd know LEOs and wouldn't have that view point.

We don't "snicker" in our "locker rooms" and a surprising amount of us aren't union members. The most conservative census I've ever met is LE.

Stop smearing and dumping on real Conservatives.

>But, how can you morally justify potentially dozens, or even one good person giving up their lives for the sake of an evil person? <

The woman in this news article was not herself, was known to the store and was not “evil”.

This individual was ill. I’m sorry you don’t understand people’s outrage that she was shot to death, as opposed to being overwhelmed and subdued.

Okay, so what should a police officer do if a person is coming at them, has already been tazed, and has a knife? And don't say "shoot them in the leg" as that would completely rob you of any understanding of that situation. What would you do?

I would tuck and roll, just like I was trained to do, and subdue the dazed woman.

Your funny. Like I said, no problems here. Move along peasants. As far as my service record goes, I am not on your beat, and if I was I still am under no obligation to tell you anything. Put your snout back into the public trough and swill away.

That's great that you think that LEOs are Supermen, but we're not. We're normal humans just like you are.

You have two LEOs attempting to subdue an insane person with a knife. The tazer (UFC 1,2,3 and 4 exhausted) there are not only members of the public, but two LEOs facing possible death. What do you suggest they do?

I'm not sure what dazed woman you'd be subduing, since the knife wielding one was not effected by a tazer, but you'd probably be stabbed in the back by the knife wielding one. Likely your partner too. As I learned in my training, you're the kind of partner that gets his partner killed.

Tazers are mostly nonsense. Only about 25% are strongly affected by them.

This was a really bad shoot, and was totally unnecessary.

Shooting to kill ain’t how you “subdue” a person. It’s how you “KILL” a person.

I think law enforcement either needs to look in the dictionary, or banish outright stupidity on display in the force.

Subdue - Verb
Overcome or bring under control (a feeling or person).

Perhaps you hould grow up and figure out how to read. Nothing I’ve posted says I want a cop in front of every house.

Cops are too militarized and are too quick to shoot.

Not a cop hater nor a fool like you. Perhaps you consider it a good thing when people get killed by law enforcement.

You’re right, for an in shape trained person its even easier then I think.

Yes I have done it. A cop should be able to disarm a sample passer outter in his sleep.
