The reasons you have supported the Boy Scouts of America for more than 103 years have not changed. We will continue to be a leader in youth development and our Scouts will continue to be committed to their communities. With more than 2.6 million youth members, last year Scouts collected over seven million pounds of food for the hungry and contributed more than 13 million hours of service to their communities, and more than 57,000 Scouts earned the rank of Eagle – our largest class ever.
After embarking on months of comprehensive discussion and receiving an outpouring of support and feedback, the Board of Directors and key members of local council leadership voted on the following resolution:
Youth membership in the Boy Scouts of America is open to all youth who meet the specific membership requirements to join the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, Sea Scout, and Venturing programs. Membership in any program of the Boy Scouts of America requires the youth member to (a) subscribe to and abide by the values expressed in the Scout Oath and Scout Law, (b) subscribe to and abide by the precepts of the Declaration of Religious Principle (duty to God), and (c) demonstrate behavior that exemplifies the highest level of good conduct and respect for others and is consistent at all times with the values expressed in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. No youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone. (emphasis added by SoFloFreeper)
The result of their vote determined that the Boy Scouts of America would adopt this resolution effective January 1, 2014. While we understand you may not agree with this decision we appreciate your continued support and dedication to Scouting and our young people.

Was that 60% of ALL the scout masters? Or just if a swelect group of gay loving scout masters from ultra liberal burrows?

As someone that fought to have the congregation support the BSA, I feel betrayed.
60% of the scouts/ members were against allowing gays. The leadership committee did not listen to their members nationwide. That's the travesty in itself.
funny... i don't remember the scouts 'educating' young kids on the virtues of deviant sexual behavior. must have missed that badge
ANY parent that knowingly places their child into the boy scouts will be open to a willful endangerment charge if the boy is molested

I saw in another thread where it was stated that BSA headquarters thought they would lose 10%. So much for focus groups huh?
My grandson will make eagle scout this summer, we are proud of him and he has worked hard for the honor...glad he is my last male grandson....my hubby use to be in charge of the cub scouts in our area and all the den mothers were mostly from out sub-division...some of my son’s went on to be boy scouts but none made eagle like my grandson will....
Congratulations you should be proud of your Grandson. My son made it to Eagle some 7 years ago and it made him a confident young man with high morals.

Just 60% were agaisnt it? I would have thought it would have been a larger percentage conciderign htey take an oath to obey God’s principles- but still 60% majority agaisnt it but organization just defies them- swell- sounds just like California where voters voted to OPPOSE gay marriage, but law makers went behidn their backs and made it legal anywaYS-

It also looks good on a resume, even in the military, they go in one step over private....Hate to see the scouts fall for the gay trap. Young children don’t know what gay really is, and those that apply, I think are just doing it for kicks and that would be older teens...
Sexual activity is a chosen thing one does. You may choose NOT to engage in sexual activity. You may have been taught that attraction to the same sex is now okay, but it’s not.
Another chosen activity is pyromania, and how about Jihad? Should we allow Jihadist pyromaniacs that get off on burning and beheading to be boyscouts? They’re “orientations” and “choices.” right?

The BSA will now do everything to make it seem as though it’s business as usual. In reality, it ceased to exist as a viable organization this week.

They will quickly find that there is a disconnect between those who support them financially through donations and purchasing their over priced items, (like paying $24.00 for a small tin of popcorn.)
Since they did not embrace gay leadership, the gays will not be happy, and since they allowed gay youth, parents will not be happy.
This lose/lose will hit their bottom line big time, and sadly they may find themselves unable to adjust in any way that will matter.
