The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
Ah here we go, “hey what about this letter from Levin and Shumer?”
“What is the content of your prayers?”
Dear Lord.....
This Schock expanding to pro-life groups. Now bringing up Schumer pressure.
Unlike the last Republican, this guy is effectively using his 5 minutes.
Exactly...like calling too many meetings just to look important...
Schock is good. Calm and composed.
Bah, that went nowhere — “I’ll look into that.”
“the IRS running Obamacare”
Freepers are mostly aware of this, but when the average LIV finally sees his grossly increased premiums and then has to certify his insurance (and pay raises) to the IRS this will sink in further.
Well, businesses are required to archive all their emails, why shouldn’t religious groups be required to archive their communications with their deity? /sarc
Schock is our guy from Peoria. Very effective
Why can’t the non-effective (questioning) Repubs yield their minutes to the take-no-prisoners Repubs? Or maybe the question should be WHY DON’t they yield their minutes?
It was Shoock..(ms) from Illinois! He did good. Suppose he is quite familiar with corruption coming from Obama’s home state...lol
Why cant the non-effective (questioning) Repubs yield their minutes to the take-no-prisoners Repubs?
Ir’s about seniority. And those idiots are the ones keeping Boehner in power. He won’t touch them by moving them aside to give time to young studs like Schock.
I missed that one...just wow!! I hope these folks have copies of this crap from the IRS..that is not only gross abuse of power but harassment under the color of law.
Major impeachable offenses going on here.
They have to look good for their peeps back home.
btw, This Jenkins gal is asking some pertinent questions. She wants the dates, times and details. (she reminds me of a Kennedy...looks-wise)
These idiots should put their Country first.

Interesting read...
Jenkins is asking the best questions about the timeline as to when the IRS Commissioner and the leadership of the Treasury were alerted to the audit. This is the most important aspect of the hearings. It was almost a year ago that Treasury was alerted. There is no way the WH only learned of this just last Friday. More questions need to be asked on the timeline.
I hope there are more shoes to drop. This hearing will be fodder for the MSM (official publicity arm of the White House and DNC) to say there is nothing there, Citizens United, blah, blah, blah. No Wonder Barry has such confidence that he can’t be toppled.
