The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
Side comment: does anyone here get the impression, as I have, that there are too many congress critters on this and other committees?
Does this stem from having to give these guys something to do? Or LOOK like they are doing something?
Hon George looks like Al Roker, by the way, hope he has a spare Depends.
My son is now watching this too. Said they (Congress in particular) all BS along like a eng dept professor.
But that would take strategy, insight and balls. The GOP has "none of the above."
If a black person engages in a coverup, would that be called a “blackwash”?
Is he Obozo’s rep? I see Chicago and Oak Park as his districts....
Rep. Yoda from Illinois stating that this is just ineptitude. Talking points all the way.
Danny Davis declares Ineptitude! Well, we got a buncha dummies to deal with. All righty then.
Yep, white wash and run out the clock time waster.
So really it gets back to the beltway GOP.
What are they going to do about this? Their constituents were assaulted by the Obama IRS and deprived of their constitutional rights.
Boehner? McConnell? Your move.
Worse...none are prepared...they could really nail miller and have not done so. They are not looking for truth...they are simply role playing their part for their home bases.
Way too many people on these committees, yes. It’s just another soda commercial where they make sure they have the right number of each different group in front of the camera.
This abrasive, ego driven moron, Steve Miller isn’t fit to be a garbage collector (no offense, garbage dudes). Just like Obama and Holder....he says knows nothing!!! Fact is, while he thinks he’s cute, like his boss Obama and Jack Lew, he is only making it worse. The truth will opt and it will bring Obama and his cronies down. Those traitors sought to steal the election....they did!!! Pubbies....don’t let up......make all these Democrats SOBs come testify under oath!!! Obama is behind all of this!!!
I had been so hopeful the past few years that this Administration would fall from their misdeeds, only to have the hope dashed by GOP-lite. Not much hope left.
FINALLY...rep utters that which must not be named.
‘Gross Abuse Of Power’
I suspect one reason is that are into so much that they have no business in that they have to overstaff so they can get a quorum.
I tend to think the Rep’s know that grilling Miller is a waste of time....but have to go thru the process.
Still...they could make him at least sweat!
Crap. Just lost audio...
“can’t speak to specifics” — drink
I think I might have enough for a bingo card for next week’s hearing.
Sorry to miss this...gotta go...back later on.
Yep...thought so.
