The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.

Ah! Good to know my memory was not playing me false. At age 72 I’m not always sure any more. Yes, I agree that the GOP should not give up but not sure how to kick them in the pants. I live in Plano which is about as red as you can get so frankly, I don’t understand the Austin crowd. All I know is that liberals are getting away with more and more stuff than they ever did and do despair of things ever changing.
Millers non verbal communication has been terrible.
Thanks for link. Research bookmark!
This subhuman debris, miller, needs (to paraphrase George Wallace, the comedian) to have his ass kicked. Arrogant criminals like him deserve no place in our society.
R Jim Gerlach of PA quotes an article re Koch brothers, oh that will get them crazy over at Huffing & Puffing Post.
When your victim gets flustered and mad, thats the time to pounce...
...only if someone is willing to pounce.
Per this post, it looks like it wasnt Marks but Kathryn Ruemmler, WH counsel.

Millers non verbal communication has been terrible...
It appears he could care less...as most criminals do behave.
former acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller, who just got forcibly retired about a month early.
The way I heard it is Miller was asked by Lew to resign. Since he was wearing Two Hats (so he says) — I think he resigned from only one position — I did not hear “retire.” correct me if I am wrong.
You made a good observation about Miller’s attorneys. We need to look into this further.
Heading out now...
The republicans know.....they don’t ask questions they don’t know answers to.
He has no knowledge....equivocating. Wow...the other shoe will be dropping soon.
Miller squirming about sharing confidential info on Tax information.
Miller: “uh, can I rephrase that question and then answer —”
Gerlach: “NO!”
Gerlach drawing blood.
Is Miller testifying under oath?
Does Miller know anything?
Those of us whon live elsewhere on the Brazos would like it known that Austin is Moscow-on-the-Colorado.
