Benghazi is not like Watergate.
Its worse.
But it wont have the same end.
In Benghazi, American military specialists, hurrying to relieve other Americans under fire, were twice ordered not to.
In Benghazi itself, they ignored the order and saved dozens. In Tripoli, they had to obey, and two brave former SEALS died as a result.
Let me repeat. American men at arms, ready and eager to go to the aid of their countrymen, were, in two separate incidents, ordered to stand down.
Two separate conscious decisions were made to let Americans die. The fundamental ethic of the American armed forces leave no man behind was violated.
We didnt scramble jets, we didnt send over the special operators from Tripoli, we didnt come in from our Mediterranean fleet or our Italian bases, we didnt fire a missile or divert a drone.
We didnt even ask the Israelis or the Egyptians for help.
We just wrote them off. Its not surprising that two more Americans died as a result, its surprising that only two more Americans died as a result.
When our government decided to do nothing to relieve besieged Americans, the issue was not two former SEALS, it was the survival of dozens of our countrymen. The compound under attack was providing refuge to a great many Americans, and as terrorists and their munitions surrounded those Americans, our government decided to stand down.
That is incomprehensible.
For the first time in our history, the demonstrated attitude of our government is that Americans are expendable.
Thats the first big thing.
The second is that the American government willfully, repeatedly and purposely lied to the American people.
Contrary to what we now know was the governments understanding at the time, the Obama Administration denied terrorist involvement, spun some complete lie about an anti-Muslim movie, and purposely and significantly distorted and misreported what had happened.
Pressed on it, the secretary of State yelled at Congress. Asked to explain, the White House spokesman complained of partisanship.
And yesterday, in front of the TV cameras, in an open meeting, the No. 2 diplomat in Libya demonstrated under oath the dishonesty and dishonor of the administration.
And it all means nothing.
The press and the Democrats have characterized the entire inquiry as Republican hate mongering, some species of semi-racism undergirding any opposition to or disagreement with Barack Obama.
In the end, this wont move the needle of public approval or public policy.
Which is how this is different from Watergate. In that criminal attempt to influence an election, the presidents party turned against him. In this criminal attempt to influence an election, the presidents party will stick with him.
Nixon fell because Republicans of conscience refused to tolerate his immoral and illegal activity. Obama will stand because Democrats have no conscience.
In the case of Nixon, Democrats opposed him universally before Watergate. The only shift in public thinking the shift that pushed him out was among Republicans. In the case of Obama, Democrats supported him universally before Benghazi. There will be no shift in their thinking. He will not be pushed out.
In fact, it is likely that among his supporters, he will become more popular, as the narrative of victimhood is wrapped around the poor president being beaten up by the hateful Republicans.
There is no record of an administration sacrificing citizens lives and patently lying to the American people. Obama holds the record on that.
And he is going to hold his office, too.
Not because he did the right thing, but because hes got the right supporters. Supporters to whom party is more important than propriety.
Its not about America, its about partisanship.
And dying is part of life.
Get over it.
And hope theres something left of America when this monster gets done with it.
If we could wrap the average American's head around the idea that the Administration didn't just write off two, nor just those and the two former SEALs who came to their aid in spite of all, but a whole compound full of people who would likely have ended up dead, then perhaps the truly despicable nature of the ordered inaction on the part of the US Government would become manifest.
Recall the Reassignment/retirement of the Commanding officers of AFRICOM and the Stennis Carrier Group whose assets were well within range to help, and the CYA was operating as soon as Susan Rice started lying about the incident.
I remember Watergate, with all the networks in the DC Metro area tied up all day with live coverage of the hearings--over a second rate burglary where no one died.
This, where the US Government wrote off some 40 people, and where those who lived were saved by the valiant efforts of just a couple of men in spite of their own Government, deserves to be heard across the land, that those who acted with courage and honor get their due (if posthumous) praise, and that those who acted despicably be held to account.
Let the MSM note that they choose sides by their reporting, whether they will be praised in history or damned depends on their actions or lack thereof.
I have, Norm. See how the GOP has progressed from just throwing Conservatives under the bus? Now the help sweep the bodies under the rug.
It wouldn't help. The 'knot' has to go down on its own before you can separate them.
Which brings up the simple question of "Why?"
We can figure it was to cover something up which might have leaked and been injurious to the administration, but that asks more questions than it answers.
SO, beneath it all, the question is one of just what was going on in Benghazi that the administration wanted to eliminate the actors/witnesses?
That is the deeper layer to all this that won't be revealed if no one peels the skin off the orange. There must have been a lot more to the story than just throwing three dozen people to the wolves.
Gun running to the Muslim Brotherhood. Smoke. Fire.
Likely you are right. Virtually every recent operation in North Africa has seemingly been to the benefit of the MB there, and may well have been lending a hand elsewhere (Syria) as well.
It will not die, if we the people will not let it die.
Thank God in heaven above there are at least 2 people here who aren't listening to the trolls and suffering from battered woman's syndrome.
I do not think the 32 people were sent to Benghazi to be killed. I think the "why" is that obama/clinton found themselves in a circumstance which required, in their minds, a decision. Remember the obama narative was...'Osama had been killed'...al Quaeda is on the run...(election declarations)...Suddenly, al Quaeda assaults the embassy (al Quaeda is alive and well..this contradicts the obama political narrative)...if found out obama looks like the idiot he is 7 weeks prior to the election.
OPTIONS: 1. Do everything he can do to save the personel at the consulate. 2. Allow the 32 people at the consulate be killed by the attackers and continue with the political ruse.
Obama/Clinton chose the second choice.
IMHO, Clinton scrubbed John Does with probable islamic ties from OK City bombing and then sanitized the fate of Flight 800 for the same reason (as well as blaming OK CIty on 'Right-Winged Extremists" which took most of the heat off the ATF for Waco).
Even the WTC bombing was downplayed, and later that led to a big event which was undeniable--9/11
If Clinton, et. al. had admitted there was a 'problem', it would have necessitated a response the administration was ill equipped to deliver and damaged the kumbaya fable that all was well with the world (at least until he had to wag the dog).
Agree. Some here on FR want to give up and assume the “noble victim” persona. They seem to enjoy being in that status.
Another pitfall: refusing to adopt legal means to take back our country because “we are better than that”, meaning conservatives just don’t do that. If it works for the left, it will work for us, and we must do it. Of course, it must be legal.
Truth be told.
I trust Boehner a lot more than I do Old McConnell and his Animal Farm.
Heck Pete... I don’t trust any of them.
LLS
I guess I’m really in your camp.
LLS
Obama/Clinton made a political calculus....what is more potentially politically dangerous....
To save the Americans, making obamas past statements that "al Quaeda is on the run" an obvious lie,
or cut all 36 Americans loose to the terrorists,
then have a ceremony, calling them all dedicated servants, heroic in all ways,
placating their families with words, telling them lies, and then moving on.
ONLY ONE THING RINGS TRUE."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You may have the workings of a new song here ...
OBAMA/CLINTON WANTED ALL OF THE AMERICANS TO DIE. DEAD PEOPLE DO NOT TALK. DEAD PEOPLE DO NOT BECOME WHISTLE-BLOWERS. DEAD PEOPLE CAN BE DESCRIBED ANY WAY OBAMA WANTS TO DESCRIBE THEM WITHOUT BEING CONTRADICTED. OBAMA/CLINTON WANTED ALL OF THE AMERICANS IN BENGHAZI TO DIE. + Nothing else makes sense.
The US is being systematically dismantled: philosophically, socially, economically.
would never have in my wildest dreams... ever thought that America could sink as low as it has in the last 6 years. We always talked about the fact that if something didnt change... it would happen... but it has happened in such a way as to boggle the mind... along with a loss of the minds of more than half of this country. Some Americans are just certifiably insane.
