Cornelius German told his mother he was afraid to wait for her at the bus stop because of all the shootings lately, so he asked her to meet him at a friend's.
Timika Rutledge said she and the boy's father pulled up to a home and waited Monday night, even blowing the horn for him to come out. Then they saw police arrive.
"I saw an officer and I stopped him and asked, 'Officer, what's going on?' "
A kid got shot in the back," he told Rutledge.
"I went back there and saw my son's jacket and his gym shoes. I just bought those shoes. I saw him laying in the grass in the backyard. ... I knew it was him in the dark.
"I stayed there until they took him to the morgue," Rutledge said. "They covered him in a burgundy blanket."
Relatives said Cornelius, nicknamed Cornbread, was hanging out with friends in the backyard of a home in the 5000 block of South Evans Avenue when a dice game broke up around 9:30 p.m. Gunfire erupted and Cornelius was hit in the back.

I don’t get it —guns are mostly illegal in Chicago.

First, the shooting was not nearly as close to Obama’s house as was implied. I have lived VERY close to the location of the shooting (53rd and Maryland), and Cottage Grove is a VERY sharp demarcation line for this sort of thing. The University’s north-south presence drops off north of 53rd and starts waning west of Ellis (even though the admin building and the Quad are ON Ellis).
I don’t know how they are counting blocks, but I would venture that they are ignoring smaller side streets, meaning that Obama’s digs are likely about a mile away, a huge deal in a place like Chicago.
Another report said the “victim” was a gangbanger.

It doesn’t matter. If gun possession was illegal in Chicago, this wouldn’t have happened. We have to pass common-sense laws against automatic assault weapons and large capacity bullet holders. Cornbread calls out from his grave for these regulations.

Yeah. What they do in leftist strongholds (like Chicago) is to NOT prosecute for existing gun laws, therefore making it look like the existing laws don’t work and then they produce more draconian laws. It does not matter that people die when the American Marxist state is the final goal. Call the dead “collateral damage” or more correctly “useful idiots” is the appropriate Marxist term.
They were “dicing”. I live in a mostly white demographic, a buddy had an apartment, I would go over there, and all the time there would be these 2 black hoodlums downstairs throwing dice at the wall, exchanging money.
I remember watching them one day, they used to get in some heated arguments. It was pretty hilarious.
They were the “thug” type. Probably criminals.
