Over the weekend, in a move that may shock the gun community, one of the most powerful and influential pro-gun organizations publicly endorsed the universal background check amendment drafted by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).
The Citizens Committee for the Right To Keep and Bear Arms announced that it would back the Manchin-Toomey UBC legislation; a bipartisan amendment that expands background checks to gun purchases made over the Internet and eliminates the so-called gun-show loophole.
We decided to back it because we believe it is the right thing to do, Julianne Versnel, director of operations for the CCRKBA, told the Washington Post.
Alan Gottlieb, the chairman of the CCRKBA, blasted out an email to the groups 650,000 members on Sunday explaining in greater detail why they opted to support the Manchin-Toomey compromise.
If you read the Manchin-Toomey substitute amendment, you can see all the advances for our cause that it contains, Gottlieb wrote.
Gottlieb then pitched the specific perks the amendment contains: interstate sales of handguns, veteran gun rights restoration, travel with firearms protection, civil and criminal immunity lawsuit protection, and most important of all, the guarantee that people, including federal officers, will go to federal prison for up to 15 years if they attempt to use any gun sales records to set up a gun registry.

I agree, JUST SAY NO!!

1. The ‘interstate sale of guns’, even if done by an individual, is performed BETWEEN TWO FFL OWNERS, or for those living in Rio Linda, between two gun dealers, AT THE BEHEST OF THE SELLER!!! You see a nice looking revolver on “gunsusa.com”. You go through the board, as you would on “ebay/etsy.com”, and perform the acts as listed above, OR, contact the seller directly, if they list a contact point, and purchase the revolver as you would shirts from LLBean. You would go to ‘your local armorer’, and they would fax their FFL info to the seller, with you filling out the FBI form 4473. Should you get the blessing from the FBI, the revolver purchase is complete.
How does that sound ‘illegal’?
2. Veterans gun rights restoration ... who kept their gosh darn mouth shut in the first place? Our beloved elected representatives! Certainly, NOT, we veterans.
3. Travel with firearms protection ... 10th Amendment States rights, to write such laws as each state sees fit. Even I can’t argue that one. So, if not something of a CCW nature, “ammo in one container with one lock, actions removed, and in another locked box, and the firearm in appropriate travel containers, locked, with the keys in the glovebox, locked.” This was what was taught to me as a child, by the airbase Security Police.
4. ‘Lawsuit protection’, i.e., the momma of the thug that was out to kill you cannot sue you for a wrongful death. (He/She might have been the only source of money NOT coming from the government.)
5. “the guarantee that people, including federal officers, will go to federal prison for up to 15 years if they attempt to use any gun sales records to set up a gun registry” ... Now, this one I could get behind!
I will grant you this is a crappy, 1990's technology website, but it is not a facebook page with 34 visitors.
Sorry about the last message then. LOL. We traded messages nearly the same time. :)
How do you know?
“Never trust a Citizens Committee.”
Or it’s half-brother, The Venerable Home Owners’ Association!!
I think Alan at CCRKBA is ‘un-hijacking’ the Common Sense term.
It's political judo, and I feel Alan at CCRKBA did good.
No one can show me that a background check has prevented a single crime. Its nothing but de facto registration and we should be eliminating them altogether.
If we really wanted to prevent crime we would keep dangerous people in prison and let free people defend themselves.
What members they have should now swing over to the NRA,GOA or JFPFO.

“Schummer is against it now.”
Is this accurate, or are you being sarcastic? I’m really not sure because one of the most effective ways of stopping gun grabbing in the past has been to put poison pills in the communists’ legislation and some of the provisions of Toomey-Mancin do look like poison pills. This is a serious question, not a snark.
The website was nothing but a new facebook page. Everything I read this morning said it was a liberal fake group.

Thank-you for your info.
The simple truth is that a tragedy in Newtown does not erase my rights under the Second Amendment. Nor does it give any other citizen the right to negotiate that right away or infringe upon it. No One.
If this country is 75% hell-bent on some kind of knee-jerk reactionary legislation as a penance for Newtown, then by damn they'd better enact laws within their own locale and be subject to the USSC rule on it, pass a federal law, again subject to USSC, or they had better just get the 2/3 of both Houses and 3/4 of the state legislatures to ratify and amendment repealing the Second Amendment.
According to the 'numbers' being bandied about, they have the required majority, don't they? A poll doesn't mean crap to me - the US Constitution does, and if that is no longer operative here, then all bets off, and all allegiances off.
As long as make, model and serial number are recorded on a 4473 or anywhere else, I’m opposed to any expansion of background checks.
