Over the weekend, in a move that may shock the gun community, one of the most powerful and influential pro-gun organizations publicly endorsed the universal background check amendment drafted by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).
The Citizens Committee for the Right To Keep and Bear Arms announced that it would back the Manchin-Toomey UBC legislation; a bipartisan amendment that expands background checks to gun purchases made over the Internet and eliminates the so-called gun-show loophole.
We decided to back it because we believe it is the right thing to do, Julianne Versnel, director of operations for the CCRKBA, told the Washington Post.
Alan Gottlieb, the chairman of the CCRKBA, blasted out an email to the groups 650,000 members on Sunday explaining in greater detail why they opted to support the Manchin-Toomey compromise.
If you read the Manchin-Toomey substitute amendment, you can see all the advances for our cause that it contains, Gottlieb wrote.
Gottlieb then pitched the specific perks the amendment contains: interstate sales of handguns, veteran gun rights restoration, travel with firearms protection, civil and criminal immunity lawsuit protection, and most important of all, the guarantee that people, including federal officers, will go to federal prison for up to 15 years if they attempt to use any gun sales records to set up a gun registry.

It it has a "universal background check" in it, it gives them everything they need to register every gun owner and gun.
Next step, rounding them all up.
Incorrect. CCRKBA has been around since 1972, and is the action arm of the Second Amendment Foundation. They have a solid record.
Funny how these so called ‘major organizations’ just appear out of nowhere.
According to the reports I have heard, it does NOT have UBC; additionally, it puts prison time on anyone attempting to register firearms, regardless of their official status.
With all due respect, there is no one on this planet more expert than I with respect to MY gun rights affirmed by the Second Amendment, NONE!
Hopefully...as he is critical of it now
That is how you beat Dems(Obama). I been preaching poison pill amendment strategy for a while, rel to Senate bills. Finally maybe we can see it used successfully
The only good gun control bill is no gun control bill.
I checked their website which is nothing but a ‘facebook’ page that this morning has had only 34 visitors.
“and most important of all, the guarantee that people, including federal officers, will go to federal prison for up to 15 years if they attempt to use any gun sales records to set up a gun registry”
Isn’t it already illegal to use or store background check information? Its also illegal in most states for concealed weapon permit information to be used.
How many prosecution of those laws have we seen?
I thought it included the Coburn amendment. So far it does not. We really need to dig into the details. I am skeptical of anything that keeps records of private sales background checks. It appears that we are getting some positive things in this bill.
Include the Coburn amendment, and I could support it.
Thank you for the compliment, Laz. I may have been a little premature about this bill. Gottlieb is saying that it has a great deal for us, and he is pretty sharp. Any deal must include careful scrutiny of the details. The Coburn amendment is a must have.
Citizens Committee for the Right To Keep and Bear Arms is the sister organization of the Second Amendment Foundation; both are run by Alan Gottlieb. I haven’t read the email yet, so I can’t comment on his position on the matter. However, Gottlieb has fought a number of pro 2A battles, so I wouldn’t dismiss his opinion too quickly.
I’d heard a front group had been formed that had the sound, look and feel of a pro-gun group, but is designed specifically to give the dems cover. Wondering if it’s this one...
Either way, there’s nothing “major” about this group.
Everything good about it will be stripped out when it goes back to committe for resolution, and the media will declare that the final form has wide bipartisan support.
There is also the now widely accepted practice of selective enforcement. What makes you think that Holder will care to enforce the parts he doesn’t like?
Calling this a win is going too far, but in the wake of 7 and 8 year olds being murdered in Newtown it is absolutely unrealistic to think some effort at limiting gun possession would not be made and have the power of hysteria and sorrow filled emotion behind it.To think nothing would happen because the 25% of the nation that fervently believes in the Bill of rights would oppose this effort is unrealistic.
Very interesting. Schummer i snow backing out of the deal. That says something. Also, apparently something in there allowing concealed carry, if allowed in your home state, to transfer to any state. As I understand it, that’s why Schummer is out, he doesn’t want evil out-of-state gun owners to conceal carry in NY. Only his body guards should have guns.
A whole 9K likes on Facebook, and from the comments, it seems most liked in recent days to leave them negative comments.
https://www.facebook.com/CCRKBA?ref=ts&fref=ts
(compare that to the almost 3 million likes the NRA has and laugh at how the media calls this group ‘major’).
This morning I searched them and all it showed was a facebook page that was just created.
That article said the group was run by some guy from Spain!
Ping!
The CCRKBA calls itself the “Common Sense Gun Lobby”
“Common sense” is always a good trait to have in general terms, but the left has hijacked the phrase as code to mean denial of gun rights to Americans.
