The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms had opposed previous iterations of a Democratic proposal for univesal background checks. "It's huge," Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., told Fox News on Sunday afternoon as he announced the CCRKBA endorsement.

Gottlieb actually helped to write the legislation.

Sounds like some leftist front group with a misleading name.
I don’t understand why. They’re supporting this bill because they’re afraid of something more draconian, but there probably aren’t enough votes in the senate (to say nothing of the house) to pass this one.
So... Why do I smell a rat?
After all, they’re only compromising on the constitution.
Everytime they compromise and every time its a step closer to the big govt liberal utopia.
bastards
Probably concocted by Axelrod.
Most likely a Rat front group.
Not sure...I don’t think they’re new. I’d swear I’ve heard of this group (or one with this same name) as far back as the 1980s.
Why they’d back this, though, I don’t know.
What? We have that now.
I didn’t think the legislation had been presented in it’s entirety yet. So how can there be support?
(Or is that the amnesty bill that is secret? I get so confused these days over what these yahoos are doing.)
The “Citizen’s Committee” sounds very 1984ish to me. This has got to be some liberal Super PAC. Besides, NBC is pimping them here. Another “Not Good” sign.
That’s what I’m thinking. Anyone can set up a group and call themselves whatever they want. Doesn’t mean their name or alleged stance has anything to do with their real agenda.
The CCRKBA has an impeccable record on gun issues as far as I know.
Here's another shocker, but on the good side.....
Rich Lowry and the formerly Conservative “National Review” have an editorial up that actually OPPOSES this bill.

Someone must have some serious dirt on Alan Gottlieb.
“The Common Sense Gun Lobby” being their slogan throws out some red flags.
Lots of their news releases are spot on though. I’m guessing it’s popular with people who think the NRA is too extreme.
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms was founded in 1972 and functions as a kind of sister organization to the Second Amendment Foundation, a legal think tank and law firm based in Bellevue, Wash., that, along with the NRA, has been a leader in filing major court challenges to halt restrictions on gun rights.
The chair of the Citizens Committee, Alan Gottlieb, told supporters in an e-mail Sunday that the group would embrace the Manchin-Toomey compromise. He urged members to read the senators compromise proposal to understand why the gun-rights group would back it.
There’s a rumor that the amendments actually loosen current gun restrictions or some such..
That’s OK, the NRA thinks I’m extreme for wanting to eliminate background checks altogether.
Keep dangerous criminals in prison and let the rest of us be free.
