"You can see all the advances for our cause that it contains like interstate sales of handguns," CCRKBA chairman Alan Gottlieb said.

Gottlieb actually helped to write the legislation.

I don’t understand why. They’re supporting this bill because they’re afraid of something more draconian, but there probably aren’t enough votes in the senate (to say nothing of the house) to pass this one.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms

Probably concocted by Axelrod.

I didn’t think the legislation had been presented in it’s entirety yet. So how can there be support?

(Or is that the amnesty bill that is secret? I get so confused these days over what these yahoos are doing.)

The “Citizen’s Committee” sounds very 1984ish to me. This has got to be some liberal Super PAC. Besides, NBC is pimping them here. Another “Not Good” sign.

I'm stunned by this endorsement.

The CCRKBA has an impeccable record on gun issues as far as I know.

Here's another shocker, but on the good side.....

Rich Lowry and the formerly Conservative “National Review” have an editorial up that actually OPPOSES this bill.

Here's the link:

“The Common Sense Gun Lobby” being their slogan throws out some red flags.

Lots of their news releases are spot on though. I’m guessing it’s popular with people who think the NRA is too extreme.

From Washington Post Politics:

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms was founded in 1972 and functions as a kind of sister organization to the Second Amendment Foundation, a legal think tank and law firm based in Bellevue, Wash., that, along with the NRA, has been a leader in filing major court challenges to halt restrictions on gun rights.

The chair of the Citizens Committee, Alan Gottlieb, told supporters in an e-mail Sunday that the group would embrace the Manchin-Toomey compromise. He urged members to read the senators’ compromise proposal to understand why the gun-rights group would back it.

The Common Sense Gun Lobby Citizens Committee For The Right...

www.ccrkba.org

Offers books, discusses legal issues, current and proposed legislation on the right to keep and bear arms.

Not looking good, IMHO. "Common sense" is Libspeak for Camel's Nose.

This bill is worse than a ban on some specific models or types of guns. It trashes the 4th Amend., the 5th Amend. and the 10th Amend. as well as the 2nd Amend.

The Toomey-Manchin Kill The Bill of Rights Bill.

TITLE ONE: GETTING ALL THE NAMES OF PROHIBITED PURCHASERS INTO THE BACKGROUND CHECK SYSTEM

Summary of Title I: This section improves background checks for firearms by strengthening the instant check system.

- Encourage states to provide all their available records to NICS by restricting federal funds to states who do not comply.

By "all their available records" just what records are they blackmailing states for with that statist bilge water? "All" is a pretty big word when only a very few records are applicable to denying someone their right to keep and bear arms.

- Allow dealers to voluntarily use the NICS database to run background checks on their prospective employees.

Does that means dealers can run NICS checks on prospective employees without their knowledge or consent? I have no idea what the word 'voluntarily' means there. Does it mean dealers will be allowed to not run NICS checks if they prefer not to?

- Clarifies that submissions of mental health records into the NICS system are not prohibited by federal privacy laws (HIPAA).

Submissions of mental health records? Since when has it been legal to deny any American their rights without due process? Isn't it required that a person be adjudicated mentally deficient by a court of law to do that? Mental health records are entirely irrelevant except to those court proceedings. This bill sounds like Stalinist purge material.

- Provides a legal process for a veteran to contest his/her placement in NICS when there is no basis for barring the right to own a firearm.

Is that an admission that the Bill of Rights doesn't cover veterans or an admission that it doesn't cover anyone anymore?

Was all of this gun control demagoguery really just a Trojan Horse to sneak this Bill of Rights killer into law?

Look at the precedents Toomey-Manchin sets regarding the freedom to travel.

Never heard of the, “Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms”. Even if I had heard of them, their stance on this issue automatically destroys any credibility they may have enjoyed

I have been adamantly against any "universal background check" law, but after actually reading the Toomey amendment, I must say I'm warming up to it.

It provides that you can transfer to family members (including inlaws) without background checks. It allows for temporary transfers for hunting, target shooting, or inspection.

It finally allows for the interstate purchase of handguns from FFLs, and it closes the FOPA loophole by specifically allowing for overnight stays, stops for fuel or food, and emergency medical attention as part of interstate travel. It also changes the FOPA from being an affirmative defense to prohibiting arrest or detention by state authorities. (This is what New York and New Jersey were doing; arresting people who transported firearms, then forced them to appear in court to assert the FOPA as an affirmative defense.)

Summary of the Toomey amendment here.

I may be ignorant of something here but this “citizens” outfit sounds like a Communist or Sorosian front group ...
1. its name is SO very Commie/Sorosian, and
2. it appears at JUST the right time to “sell out” its ostensible Pro-Constitutional cause

“coincidences” are sometimes not accidental....
