The worlds most visited art museum is dealing with an influx of unwelcome visitors.
A staff walkout over the rise of pickpockets forced the Louvre in Paris to shut its doors Wednesday, Agence France-Presse reports.
Workers say that thieves have been showing up at the museum in gangs of up to 30 primarily made up of young Eastern Europeans and are responsible for incidents of spitting, insults, threats and striking employees and visitors.
Staffers come to work afraid because they find themselves confronted with organized groups of pickpockets who are increasingly aggressive and which include children, who get into the museum free and even when taken in for questioning by police, come back a few days later, Christelle Guyader, a representative for the network of trade unions Solidaires Unitaires Démocratiques (SUD), told the AFP.

And people wonder why I’ll never visit France.
One More thing, Charles Degal (sp?) Airport is the worst airport I have ever been in, in my entire life, and that is saying a lot.
My heart goes out to the families who lost brave GI's taking France back from the Germans... what a waste.
Judging the French based on Parisians is like judging Americans based on New Yorkers.
My B.I.L. had his wallet stolen on the Paris subway.
Interestingly, the French cops recovered it with the money still in it. They turned it over to the American Embassy.
Gypsys, tramps, and thieves
We’d hear it from the people of the town
They’d call us Gypsys, tramps, and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down
My guess: Gypsies. It sounds like their M.O. by having children along for the ride.
We spent several weeks in Paris and the Loire Valley last year. The French couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. And that included a trip to the emergency room.
Moreover, practically everyone spoke some English.
I don’t know how the “French hate Americans” meme got started, but in my experience, it’s not true.
That is for sure. The Parisians hate everybody including their fellow French. I was in the south of France and they were all very courteous and friendly. They hated the Parisians as well.
I was in Paris once and couldn’t find a rude Frog to save my life. It wasn’t Disney (what do they give those people?) but, at the very least, it was better than NYC or Atlanta.
My sister DID manage to find the worst Greek restaurant in Paris, though...
I’m glad that I visited Paris when it was still relatively safe, and unpolluted by human detritus.
Thanks for the good pictures ... now I’ve seen all I need to of the Louvre and don’t have to visit France!
LMBO!!
