Rick Warren said it's been difficult to deal with some of the hate mail and online comments he's read since announcing Saturday that his son had committed suicide.
"Grieving is hard. Grieving as public figures, harder. Grieving while haters celebrate your pain, hardest," Warren wrote on Facebook on Monday night.
Warren has been deluged with words of support both at his Saddleback Church in Orange County and on the Web.
Kay and I are overwhelmed by your love, prayers, and kind words, the pastor wrote.
But there have also been many words of hate on various website comment boards, including some blaming Warren for his son's death.
This fits right in:
Anger, Hatred and Irrational Rage

Sounds like he's been reading comments here.........
will he be picketing HIS SONS funeral!!??
I have read nothing that but kindness extended.
Some people are truly horrible creatures. I don’t give a flip about Warren’s beliefs right now. I’m very sorry for his son’s pain and his and his wife’s pain as they deal with this. I read about these same types celebrating over Maggie’s death yesterday too. Then you have people after OBL being killed saying we shouldn’t have celebrated when a truly evil monster died. There’s some upside down people in this world.
Dude, you’re thinking of Fred Phelps!
Are you confusing him with Fred Phelps, perhaps? I hope?
will he be picketing HIS SONS funeral!!??
Huh?
Do you have him confused with someone else?
liberalism = hate
100% of the time.
There were a few here as well. The web somehow lets people think that others are not really real; or something like that.
They would never make the same comments to someone face to face.
Wish that were true. I’ve seen many people of Facebook who are completely comfortable spewing the same vile as you’d see on any news story comments section.
He’s right, some of the comments have been utterly over the line. I’m not encouraged by his use of the word “hater,” though. It’s seldom used by anyone with whom I agree or even have much in common.
I read many of them. There are large groups of people that hate Christians as much as Germans hated Jews before WWII. I can understand people not believing or accepting Christianity but the hatred for Christians is at an irrationally high level. Truly bizarre
The web sees that on every kind of website.
I see it on YouTube a lot...on videos you wouldn’t think there would be any hate or being disgusting, but someone will post the most foul, hateful, disgusting thing they can think of.
I’m not a fan of Rick Warren’s, but I think the hateful comments about his son’s suicide are unwarranted.
Liberalism LOVES hatred of GOOD things...GODLY things...they HATE.
Warren’s Brokeback Church is nothing I am interested in attending.
I do extend some sympathy for the loss of his son.
