A year and a half into his dismal attempt to turn around J.C. Penney, Ron Johnson was ousted as chief executive on Monday and replaced with his predecessor, Myron E. Ullman III, as the board searched for a new direction for the struggling retailer.
The board said Mr. Ullman, who was at the helm for seven years, is well positioned to quickly analyze the situation J.C. Penney faces and take steps to improve the companys performance.
Penneys shares, after initially rising 10 percent after hours on reports that Mr. Johnson was out, then headed downward and were off more than 6 percent from Mondays close.
Since Mr. Johnson arrived in late 2011 after heading Apples retail operation, Penney has wrestled with one problem after another.

You mean old right wing nuts and your stupid boycott help get me sacked!
Ron Johnson, OUT, Don Johnson, IN!, look for Miami Vice ware to return this summer!
Homosexuality is not a wholesome thing. Ron Johnson tried to push a lie, and it backfired on him. Good riddance.
Too little too late... JCP is on life support and someone will pull the plug soon.
Do they still use Ellen Degenerate?
I, being a man, will never go into JCP again, since they decided to have a virulent man-hating feminist lesbian as their main spokesmen/woman/person/it.
I don't find anything funny or endearing with homosexuality and man-hating, and for a retail store to go into that mode I find disgusting.
When they get rid of her, i’ll return to shop there.....that’s a promise!

.
Great, I just can’t wait to wear magenta shorts with a yellow belt and a purple shirt.
The only CEO who might stop on the way jot just so the door knob could hit him.
He practically ran JCP into the ground. So, what kind of “compensation” package did he get (unlike some regular employee who gets fired)?
My GAYDAR is going off the charts!!
Ellen Degeneris needs to go also!!!
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
Ok lessee who Penneys is targeting. Gays- men: too high end and glamorous to shop Penneys. Shoes- Does Penney’s carry giant male sizes in pumps and stillettos? Gay-Women- don’t normally buy female clothes, so they would shop the men’s department. They would most likely buy men’s shoes. Children- nope, gays can’t make’em and too few buy’em to do a lot of retail business. Jewelry- again, butch gay women aren’t buying it, and the transexual men usually have higher-end taste. Middle America: damned mad about the gay thing- so they go elsewhere if they can.
I’d hate to have to figure out who my customers are from their current perspective. Doesn’t help that the place is so darn bland and boring either.
A business that loses sight of its customer base is a business on the road to failure.
Look for JCP to have its next CEO focused solely on taking the company into Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. This is a zombie company unless it can shed its debt, many leases, and come back as a much smaller niche chain that understands its target demographic aren’t upscale yuppies, gays, and lesbians.
:)
recently bought the cutest Bisou Bisou black denim pencil skirt... fits like a glove--twenty bucks... and a cream colored skinny top for three bucks... one outfit--$23!
Stock jumped 10+% after hours on the news. Johnson’s retail plan was a disaster. Here’s BI’s article on the failed plan:

Well, Mr. Ullman, you know who your customers aren’t. Build upon it. Midmarket D&S is a tough place to be. Get out of those mall leases. That ship has sailed. Use what’s left, target your merch down to the local level if need be. Made in USA is a big selling point in flyover country. You’re not Walmart, so there’s room in the price points. A big “we’re sorry” discount coupon booklet with phased activation and expiration dates targeted to your former customers to rebuild store traffic is in order. I assume you maintained a customer database. It’s about to be worthless if you don’t use it. Kindly thank Ms. DeGeneres for her service as your spokesperson and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors, because it’s time to say goodbye. Time’s a-wasting.
