I was stationed at Knox from ‘85-’89, and did training there post-9/11.
The post itself is small, but the land and training areas cover parts of Bullitt, Hardin, and Meade counties.
I was there for a short time in 1970. Then on to Fort Polk which was a pit.
Had a family member stationed there. You will NEVER hear any real news coming out of Ft Knox, no matter what. The Army keeps a lockdown on information too.
They are saying the Louisville hospital isn’t even involved yet? That sounds weird.
Back during its heyday, Fort Knox was the third largest city in Kentucky. I lived on post from 1959-1967 in Pritchard Place. Right across the street from the Gold Vault. Even remember some of the filming of Goldfinger. Then in 1967 it was my turn to wear the green fatigues. Many good memories. Taho, Tobacco Leaf Lake, Fort Knox High School, and Ireland Army Hospital. Won’t say why I remember the hospital. And, of course, basic training.
Lived in Van Voorhis.
Memories here, too. Yano and Mendick Ranges, Otter Creek Park, the Museum.
Fort Knox has its own hospital (Ireland Army Community Hospital) and Hardin County has a small hospital. Louisville is approx. 45 minutes away, so I wouldn’t expect them to be involved right away unless there’s a mass casualty situation.
The Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Maude Complex houses the Human Resource Center of Excellence, which includes Army Accessions Command and Human Resources Command. .
Did you see all the gold bullion???
Nope, just a lot of bull...
I was there for Armor Officer Basic in ‘77-78. Did 26 days of TDY later with the 2/6 Cav. And was back again for Armor Officer Advanced Course in ‘83.
The Armor School Chapel burned to the ground and oddly a chapel at Fort Benning also burned to the ground when I was here (it wasn’t me...they can’t prove anything).
At Knox I stayed at Cromwell? BOQ and spent lots of time at Southwind Motel too in Radcliffe.
I did some training in the LA Swamps, myself. Nothing good can EVER come from those particular bowels of Hell. *SHUDDER*
Still have nightmares involving Cottonmouths and ‘Gators!
And trust me, a poisonous snake IS a poisonous snake! Not a thing ‘Freudian’ about it, LOL!
I work at The Army Human Resources Command on Ft Knox. Prayers to all those involved.
Thank you, I didn’t know that. It makes sense why the hospital wasn’t notified then.
Have you heard any more?

This whole situation is really odd. I grew up just southeast of Louisville, KY - about an hour’s drive from Fort Knox but still close enough to have the sliding glass doors in our house rattle when they’d fire the big guns. I was watching Fox News from our current location of southern MD when the news broke. Like us, my parents learned about it on Fox News, but there’s little to no information on any of the Louisville based news affiliate websites.
It was a little like Nam. LOL
I looked at the photo and realized the advances in pneumatics are huge!
Or it’s something in the water?
They do not appear malnourished.
