I was stationed at Knox from ‘85-’89, and did training there post-9/11.
The post itself is small, but the land and training areas cover parts of Bullitt, Hardin, and Meade counties.
I was there for a short time in 1970. Then on to Fort Polk which was a pit.
Had a family member stationed there. You will NEVER hear any real news coming out of Ft Knox, no matter what. The Army keeps a lockdown on information too.
Back during its heyday, Fort Knox was the third largest city in Kentucky. I lived on post from 1959-1967 in Pritchard Place. Right across the street from the Gold Vault. Even remember some of the filming of Goldfinger. Then in 1967 it was my turn to wear the green fatigues. Many good memories. Taho, Tobacco Leaf Lake, Fort Knox High School, and Ireland Army Hospital. Won’t say why I remember the hospital. And, of course, basic training.
