Doctor Raoul died Saturday of a rare form of cancer. He was 58.
Raoul's family contacted us this morning to see if they could find out more about his activities as an activist.
This is such a shock. His family is looking for photos and stories about him.
He is and always will be a Free Republic icon.
He kind of fell off the face of the earth about 2 or 3 years ago now. All attempts we made to reach him failed.
If you have photos please contact me. Please feel free to post stories and I will make sure the family sees this thread.
RIP, sir...
I went back to my old freep messages and our conversation was on 3/16/12 ..time surely flies. Makes me want to stop and think about what’s important, really.
Do we really know that it was his family asking for information?
Thank you, Mr. Civilizations. :( indeed.
I suppose it could be some weirdo crawling out of the woodwork, but I don’t believe so. The person I talked to had info about us and Raoul’s real name that wouldn’t be readily available.
I’m not sure what you mean.
I’m having a terrible time with this. The tears won’t stop. Dear dear Dr. Raoul! This is hard to take.
How many FReeps along side him? Can’t even count them. I think his family will be surprised at how involved he was. One time when we were driving together to DC, he said they didn’t know of his activities. He didn’t talk about himself very much.
But he was bigger than life out there on the streets, leading us along with his protests, and especially the famous “Bill Clinton” chant.
My heart goes out to him and what these past months must have been like. I sincerely hope his family surrounded him with love and that we can help them in their search.
Thanks, abner. Thanks for posting this.
I still am having a hard time-————
I’m still having a hard time too.
Yes, his family has pretty much been in the dark.
They have seen this thread and are happy to get to know this side of him.
Prayers to the family. So sad.
I would probably give that up if I were you.
I think we can trust Connie Hair to tell us the truth.
Prayer up
Lord Jesus, rest the man known to us as Doctor Raoul, with the saints.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.
Amen
Hard to put into words, but a very strange feeling .. so many pages that have turned in these books of our lives since those days of yore.
And yet, this sad news notwithstaning, seeing all these old names gathered here, Doc must surely know that even in passing he's a uniting force among conservative FRiends.
About where he lived or was from. -——— A couple of times I picked The doc up, on my way down to DC. It was somewhere near Philadelphia, but I don’t remember the town. He just gave me directions. ( still can’t believe this)
I recall reading Dr. Raoul’s great posts. May this good patriot rest in peace. Condolences to his family.
God bless ya Doc, it was a pleasure knowing you here at FR.
Rest in God, Good Doctor.
I first met him at the SUNY protest of Hillary when she ran for the Senate and I don't think there was a NYC freep that he didn't attend. I can still see the shocked expression on Rick Lazio's met and greet in NY State when he saw me in a Hillary mask and the good Doc in his Clinton jailbird get-up. He had quite a good laugh and wanted our photo. I believe that's where we met nutmeg and zelig for the first time.
He was always dressed in his devil costumes at the many Hillary freeps in NY and she once commented that the "devil was following her all around the State". Imagine her surprise when he was with us in Ct. freeping her at Dodd's home.
Seems like only yesterday we had a picnic in my home and he spent a small fortune on those wonderful deserts, remember race? Then the poor guy got a speeding ticket on his way out of Town and I often think of it when I pass the speed trap.
I miss our chats, our freeps and will forever be grateful I rubbed shoulders with one heck of an activist. I will keep his family in my prayers for their terrible loss. I hope they know we are also grieving as he was quite special to a lot of folks here! RIP my dearest FRiend.
