Brunswick, Georgia (CNN) -- Two teenagers were arrested Friday in the shooting death of a 13-month-old boy who was in his stroller, according to police in Brunswick, Georgia.
The suspects are a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, Police Chief Tobe Green told reporters Friday. He said they are being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Green identified the older suspect as Demarquis Elkins, saying he will be treated as an adult in criminal proceedings. The 14-year-old was not identified because of his age.
"We are turning every stone to get a motive," said Green. A weapon has not been found.
Police offered a $10,000 reward for information and have received more than 30 leads.
Sherry West earlier told reporters that the incident occurred at 9 a.m. Thursday as she was walking home from the post office, pushing her son Antonio in a stroller. She said she saw two boys.
"A boy approached me and told me he wanted my money, and I told him I didn't have any money," she said. "And he said, 'Give me your money or I'm going to kill you and I'm going to shoot your baby and kill your baby,' and I said, "I don't have any money and don't kill my baby." The boy tried to grab her purse and opened fire when she said tried to tell him she had no money, West said, grazing her head. She said the boy then shot her in the leg.
She continued, "And then, all of a sudden, he walked over and he shot my baby in the face."

I saw that, and knew it was a typo.
To those who doubt the woman’s story, I say okay, but perhaps you might find this REMINDER—from just this past December—useful in formulating opinions as the case develops:
...and for what it’s worth, I tend to believe her.
Auntie Katrina) Freeman said Elkins dropped by her home about 8:15 a.m. roughly an hour before the shooting and she cooked them grits, eggs and sausage for breakfast.
______________________________________________
and the sister of Elkins said that he and she go out to eat breakfast at a local restaurant every Friday morning and that he was with her as usual at that time...
Oh noez
he cant have been in both places at once...
One or both of these women are ...lying...
Remember... Cowboy hats and Gadsden flags.
Absolutely. Got 'em both on me wherever I go (and that's the truth).
Where’s Al?
I saw the aunt on television giving her spiel — she has the credibility of Benjamin Crump. She says she told the police that he was at her house for breakfast but I doubt she had the guts to do that. However I hope the police have the guts to arrest her.
“A boy approached me and told me he wanted my money, and I told him I didn’t have any money,” she said. “And he said, ‘Give me your money or I’m going to kill you and I’m going to shoot your baby and kill your baby,’ “
A one-way ticket to Hell seems the appropriate punishment in this case.
I will also watch her and see what I can gleen.
“Investigation” is my thing. It’s what my degree is in, what my trade is, and the halfway talent that I have. I am not homeschooling my kiddo and not working and not working at the moment, so that’s why I get so interested in cases like these. It’s my only outlet to do what I love at the moment... So my comments are more me speculating the thoughts working through my head and not an indictment of anyone. And I’m always fully aware that I don’t have all the information. Please ping me on any future articles involving this case. I’m very fascinated (not with the child’s death, of course), but with this case in general
You know, it's racist to even ask that question.
Let me take the mystery out of it and say, they’re both black teens. One mugshot is seen in the article. Enough with political correctness. I’m gonna throw it out there...as long as black single women keep birthing babies out of wedlock, with no morality this is what we will have. Call me a racist, I don’t care.

Looking for a motive. That only works with humans. It doesn’t work with subhuman psychopaths. They don’t need a motive.
Let’s see what the defense says. Will they claim the baby called the murderer a racist name?
Two possible motives:
The mother profiled them as not your ordinary homeless in need of a handout when she said NO.
And the baby dissed them by sleeping through the entire episode and not being intimidated by the thug's big moment.
Honestly, the latter sounds like a better solution.
Crimes like this make me want to see the perps get very brutal public whippings.
I believe that the Supreme Court of the United States of America, in its infinite wisdom, ruled that it is cruel and unsual punishment to sentence youthful offenders to life prison terms. Or, for matter, long terms in prison. Which means, in laymen’s terms, that they cannot be sentenced to life. Or what may be construed to be a long term. Anything over 30 days the Court would consider a long term. which furthur means tat the community will be blessed with these little shits until street justice is applied.
Besides charged with lying to police, Elkins’ mother and aunt are now also charged with tampering with evidence, in disposing of the gun in the pond afterward.
Elkins is now charged in the death of a man in a robbery on 3/11/13, using the same gun.
In a videotaped interview, Sherry West described a previous situation when she reported her next-door neighbor to police, who was constantly smoking crack and playing loud music and causing lots of problems, criminal activity, etc. Eventually she had the neighbor evicted.
West speculated that her older son’s death and the latest shooting of her and her baby may all be related to gang revenge for having the neighbor woman evicted. Now I wonder: Was the neighbor De’Marquis Elkins’ mother??
No -- because West would have recognized him and wouldn't have had to pick him out of a lineup since as a good boy he would have been coming over to see his momma regularly -- atleast for breakfast and for alibis.
The police said that the location and the victim were both random. Nothing more than that.
