Starbucks chief executive Howard Schultz on Wednesday defended the companys decision to support marriage equality, and told investors that if they werent on board, they could sell their stock and go elsewhere.
Howard Schultz Last year, the Seattle-based company announced its support for legalizing same-sex marriage in Washington state, prompting opponents of the measure notably the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage to launch a boycott of Starbucks.
At the companys annual meeting Wednesday, shareholder Tom Strobhar described Starbucks first-quarter performance as disappointing, and suggested that was due in part to the boycott.
In the first fill quarter after this boycott was announced, our sales and our earrings shall we say politely were a bit disappointing, Strobhar said.
Unfazed, Schultz replied that the companys decision to support marriage equality was not the bottom line, but about respecting diversity, reported KPLU.
Yet one more good reason not to spend money there.
I would take them up on their suggestion except I have no stock. I would boycott them but there are none around here.
Even if they were in this area they are too high for me.
I guess the only thing I can do is to suggest to anyone I know who might have stock, to sell it and not go anywhere near their business.
I am no stock holder, but I will not spend money there.
I stopped going there. Let’s put them out of business.
So, when do they come out in support of plural marriage, consanguineous marriage, or inter species marriage in the name of “equality?”
Their coffee tastes like sour ass. How appropriate.
couldnt put it better. I stopped drinking their over priced...burnt coffee years ago...figure ive saved well over a couple thouand dollars...i roast my own...
My two reasons for not drinking Starbucks have been that it tastes like a burnt tire and is overpriced. Now I have 3 reasons not to drink it!
I hope Starbucks’ preference for misfits works out like J.C. Penneys’ did last fall; but even more so!
Their coffee tastes like crap. Now I have more reasons to never go there.
“Their coffee tastes like sour ass...”
Now how do you know what sour ass tastes like? No wait, never mind....
makes good asphault remover.
Tried Starbucks one time, never made it out of the parking lot before I tossed it.
couple weeks later, saw the patching crew working in that area.
Just go to starbucks and order 5 coffees. Politely learn of their buttfudge procreation and leave.
Hot battery acid in a cup.
He’d better start selling his stock.
You know, they have good pastries, good espresso and cappuccino
Why do they have to do this?
I watched the special on Johnny Carson recently. It was way too intrusive on his personal life, but the point is, they all said, at the end, he never NEVER revealed his political leanings.
They said, and I know, he made fun of people equally and they said no one ever even knew who he voted for.
They said, why would he want to and why would anyone want to alienate half their audience?
I guess Starbucks and all the Hollywooders think everyone will eventually give in.
Hmm.
Liberalism has given us destruction of marriage and family, Debt of the kind that goes in a science fiction novel, hideous education, gender confusion, rampant pornography and at least 55 million innocent people murdered through abortion, among other things.
Like the threats against the Constitution.
And BO.
No.
Speaking from experience are we ?
No Starbucks around here. We did have one near the office in NYC, but I only tried it a couple of times. Expensive, and not very good.
They do carry Starbucks coffee in our local markets, but we can buy much better coffee for less money.
So, now I have yet another reason not to touch their stuff, but I can’t stop buying what I haven’t touched for years.
