CORPUS CHRISTI -- Many parents check their children's school work to make sure they're getting good grades, but how often to you check the content of those lessons? One mother of a child in Flour Bluff ISD says when she did, she was shocked that lesson taught her son to blame the United States for the 9/11 attacks.
Kara Sands posted the test on her facebook page and it began to spread like wildfire. The test covers content watched on a video in class. What bothered her most is question #3 on the test. It asks why the U.S. may be a target for terrorism. Her son chose the correct answer - 'decisions we made in the United States that negatively impact people elsewhere.'
"I'm not going to justify radical terrorists by saying we did anything to deserve that, over 3,000 people died," Sands said. She contacted her son's principal and teacher, both met with her and contacted the video's distributor, Safari Montage.
Representatives say they stand behind the video, but have already changed the corresponding quiz that may have caused confusion.
Sands tells us the quiz opened her eyes to the content in lessons taught at the school. Her biggest concern is curriculum called CSCOPE.

One worksheet on the Bill of Rights names food and medicine as rights, not personal responsibility. "He got marked wrong, because it is, it is our responsibility for shelter, its our responsibility for food for medicine, its not the government's responsibility," Sand said.
Flour Bluff officials say Sands is the only parent to complain about the test specifically, but her post on facebook now has 1,662 likes.
Several parents plan to meet next week and Sands says school board members Shirley Thornton and Wade Chapman have requested the concerns be brought up in the next school board meeting. The agenda for the March 28th meeting is not yet posted to confirm the item.
Sands says parents need to get involved.
"When I teach my children that you have to work hard and you have to earn a living and they go to school and learn something different I absolutely take issue with that," Sands said.
The CSCOPE curriculum guidelines prohibit disclosure of materials to school boards and parents. Predictably this allows leftists to force feed left wing propaganda into the curriculum.
Yep, just about every school district in Texas has joined CSCOPE haven’t they?
bump
9/11 was an act of religious faith, and the enemy’s desire to murder us began with that religious faith, not with anything we’ve done. Muslims have been killing non-Muslims simply for being non-Muslims, since Mohammad started it over a thousand years ago.
The NEA virtually dictates to all its members that American kids’ heads be filled with a vast ocean of pseudo-intellectual sewage.
It’s a national disgrace, but just one more sociopolitical outrage that is not being addressed.

I have been saying this for years. The NEA and others who are creating and directing the litteral “brainwashing” of our children needs to be very closely scrutinized PRIOR to allow any of their crap pushed through. Better yet, it needs to be STOPPED.
People, GET INVLOVED with your child’s public provided education, better yet, home school them.
The indoctrination of our children through public schools has been long in the making. Those of us who researched Obama during his 2008 campaign know that he and comrade Bill Ayers were right on top of it in Chicago.
I refer you to this Wall Street Journal article:

For those of you who didn’t have time to follow the link to the article above, the title will pretty well sum it up for you:

Good to see local people involved, but state officials need to speak up, take action and put a stop to this statewide curriculum.
Where’s all those great conservative politicians that supposedly exist within the Republican Party in Texas??????
Most of them are no doubt RINO’s just like the ones up here.
I still maintain more than 90 percent of the Republicans we have elected don’t deserve to be re-elected next time around.
Also killing muslims for being the wrong kind of muzzie.
Thank your friend for standing up against CSCOPE. I am a public school teacher and i don’t understand how a school board is willing to adopt a curriculum that it has not seen. didn’t they learn anything from obozo care and Nasty Pelosi “We need to pass it so we can see what’s in it”?

If you include private schools such as charters, etc then it runs around 70%. If you only use ISDs it is around 80%. In either case it is the predominate supplier of curriculums to the school systems.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
charter schools are still publik skoolz
Yes I know that but was referring to public as State ISDs. I should have been more specific I suppose.
Notes from the Linahan interview (I have not had an opportunity to check these facts):
Only 5 states have rejected CC (Common Core). So, what CSCOPE did (in Texas) was to install a SCOPE "salesman" in each of the 20 REGION Service Centers in Texas to sell CSCOPE to the superintendents.
These 20 salesmen became the board of the 501c3 nonprofit in Texas. There is no State Board of Education oversight over this curriculum (because it is an online curriculum). CSCOPE copyrighted the curriculum and forced the teachers to sign a non-disclosure that they would not share what was in the curriculum with parents.
In one lesson, girls were given burkas to wear. When the incident drew public attention because one of the girls posted a photo on Facebook, the school administration called in the girls and made them sign affidavits affirming the lie that they were not forced to wear the burkas. The parents had no knowledge that the girls were made to sign these affidavits.
That same lesson also called the 911 terrorists "freedom fighters."
Linahan also talked about the Fethullah Gulen (islamic) charter schools (Cosmos Foundation). There are 38 Harmony Science Centers in Texas (they are called by different names in different states.). They target black and Hispanic communities.

In states like Texas, which rejected Common Core, similar secretive alliances prevail. The Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative, a nonprofit group led by government officials, designed the CSCOPE curriculum now used in 80 percent of the states schools. The state Board of Education, local schools and parents were denied access to the online CSCOPE curriculum database which was exempted from disclosure rules.
In fact, dissemination of the lessons was considered a crime until earlier this month. Only after parents and teachers across the state blew the whistle on radical CSCOPE lesson plans (including designing a new flag for a socialist lesson) did the state take steps to rein in the CSCOPE zealots.
Above quote taken from Michelle Malkin's 4-part series on Common Core Curriculum (Malkin provides many excellent resources/links for additional info).):

Rotten to the Core (Part 2): Readin, Writin and Deconstructionism
Rotten to the Core, Part III: Lessons from Texas and the Growing Grassroots Revolt
Safari Montage mentioned in the article is an online video system that allows very nice distribution of content. The majority owner is a nephew of the leftist historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr.
The video content comes from Schlessinger Media. I don't know who creates the tests but with their connection to PBS I wouldn't be surprised if it comes straight from the most liberal side of universities.
