Graham Greene’s observation has lost none of its salience in 50 years: innocence remains “like a dumb leper who has lost his bell, wandering the world, meaning no harm.”
The latest illustration comes from Wisconsin, where the state’s Department of Public Instruction website devotes a page to “Power and Privilege.” Caucasians who volunteer in the state’s AmeriCorps VISTA antipoverty programs are instructed to “set aside sections of the day to critically examine how privilege works”; “put a note on your mirror or computer screen as a reminder to think about privilege”; and, in order to underline white guilt, “find a person of color who is willing to hold you accountable for addressing privilege.” The site generously provides a link to a “diversity document,” recommending that Caucasians “wear a white wristband as a reminder about your privilege, as well as a personal commitment to explain why you wear the wristband.”
This, of course, is not meant to be an echo of the Third Reich. It’s doubtful if the ahistorical functionaries who run Wisconsin’s DPI have ever read the racial laws of Nazi Germany. They may never have heard of Nazi Germany, where a series of cloth badges singled out “guilty” Germans for their race or their beliefs—yellow Stars of David for Jews, red triangles for political dissidents, green for criminals, purple for Jehovah’s Witnesses, blue for emigrants, brown for Gypsies, black for lesbians and other “anti-socials,” and pink for gay men.
Germany sentenced these wrong thinkers to concentration camps; Josef Stalin sent his sinners to the Gulag; Mao preferred “reeducation centers” for those whose opinions did not jibe with the official line of the People’s Republic of China. Wisconsin is nowhere near as totalitarian; it merely wishes for VISTA folks to wear something white, an article of clothing to set them apart, to make them feel wretched about their race, and, at the end of the day, to ask themselves: “What am I doing to undo my privilege?”
What could be more innocent?
Have a few of kids publicly call them “white pride” wristbands instead, and it will send the educrats who thought of this scurrying back to their holes for a new idea.
It’s been evident in the army for a long time. When NCO’s are sent to school to be “EO” reps they are given a class called “The White American Experience” which begins with a statement that whites have been a privileged class in America.
Commanders are required to submit “demographic” reports of the make up of ranks by race. We are forced to observe “race pride” events while there is never a mention of the white race.
Equal Opportunity in the military isn’t equal.

Wearing one of those bands is basically saying “I’m ashamed of my race and of myself for being a member. I confess that simply by being alive I bare responsibility for most of the evil in the world. Please forgive me.”

Black guys self-segregated in their "African-American Studies Institute" would saunter forth daily to try to play the White Guilt card and score money and sex from Females of Colorless like me: one of them told me, in a fleeting moment of honesty, that he was majoring in "White Girl Psychology." (Didn't work with me.)
I´m suprised this thread doesn´t have about 150 comments by now.
For my part: I can state in all honesty that I have thought no harm, spoken no harm, and done no harm to anyone in my whole life on account race, color or national origin.
I am verbally slapped as a racist by a lady in my own church --- a fellow parishioner --- whenever we have even the slightest disgreement about anything, whether it be choir robes, Latin Mass, or Eric Holder.
Do I still talk to her? Not willingly, not any more. So I suppose that makes me a segregationist, too.
I pray for her well-being and redemption.
When I was in line for the Sacrament of Reonciliation last Saturday, I did see her coming out of the confessional, and her face looked serious. So there´s hope --- for all us sinners.

basically, the young black males saunter up to their prey and it comes down to “you’re racist if you won’t sleep with me”.
I do so hope the students sabotage this, which is what would have happened when lesser stunts were tried years ago.
Such wrist bands would not be inspected on a daily basis, so counterfeit ones with different messages would blend in.
Imagine for example if instead of saying “white privilege”, some of the wristbands said “white power”?
What to do. Hey, let's try this "white privilege" scam, and see how far up the flagpole we can run it. It's simply a version of the old "white folks are keeping us down" i.e. white racism meme. How else to explain NAMs still not making as much money as whites. Nasty, racist white people must be up to their old mischief and keeping black people down. They'll never tire of using that "argument" no matter how often it's disproved.
Them Armenians sure are uppity.
