Having given up on trying to persuade Americans that taking guns away from law-abiding citizens will reduce the murder rate, Democrats have turned to their usual prohibitionary argument: "Why does anyone need (an assault weapon, a 30-round magazine, a semiautomatic, etc., etc.)?"
Phony conservative Joe Manchin, who won his U.S. Senate seat in West Virginia with an ad showing him shooting a gun, said, "I don't know anyone (who) needs 30 rounds in a clip."
CNN's Don Lemon, who does not fit the usual profile of the avid hunter and outdoorsman, demanded, "Who needs an assault rifle to go hunting?"
Fantasist Dan Rather said, "There is no need to have these high-powered assault weapons."
And prissy Brit Piers Morgan thought he'd hit on a real showstopper with, "I don't know why anyone needs an assault rifle." Of course, where he comes from, policemen carry wooden sticks.
Since when do Americans have to give the government an explanation for why they "need" something? If that's the test, I can think of a whole list of things I don't know why anyone needs.

Imagine an abridged Revolutionary War.
Where I am from, they are for protection from the roaming packs of feral animals with fully automatic weapons. I used to shudder when I listened to what was being fired off on New Year’s Eve. When offered a chance to move to Texas, I decided in less than 5 minutes to leave. No way was I going to live in the bowels of another city over run by lowlife. Forty mi. north of Houston(and SJL) in the country is just about right.
Exactly. I'm going to level the next liberal who asks me why I need a gun.
Well, Joe, why do you need more than one phone in your house? You can only talk on one phone at a time, so why have more? You are wasting resources if you have more than one.
Hmmm... Strangely, there was no mention of Chris Christie’s position on guns.
I ask and I continue to ask the lefties, “ what does it matter what kind of gun a law abiding citizen has “?
I never get a straight answer
It’s the Bill of Rights, not a “Bill of Needs”
I don’t know why Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity is true, but that doesn’t make it false.
I don’t need one either, but I do need the right to own one. A soon as the government starts telling me what I need or don’t need (like healthcare or firearms) we have tyranny. It is called the bill of rights, not the bill of needs.
Remember when the 55 mph national speed limit was instituted some years back? The do-gooders then railed on automakers to change the speedometers because the display was capable of registering speeds over 55, and people didn't need to go any faster than that.
We need the right to decide for ourselves what we need, or more accurately we HAVE the right.
“Why does anyone need (an assault weapon, a 30-round magazine, a semiautomatic, etc., etc.)?”
Because I can’t get a phased plasma rifle in a 40 watt range!
Seems like the only ones who ask is the ones who don’t own guns wheter liberal or not. I have some conservative co-workers, non OB supporters, who are spouting that mess too. I always say that you need a gun for protection because most gun owners rarely hunt.
I tell them that ARs etc are not for hunting but protection against a corrupt government. I always ask what they will do if someone kicks down their door at 3AM and I always get a blank look.
