We should not engage in “Why do you need” debates (at least not on the receiving side!). What you “need” is, in most cases, subjective, and therefore fertile ground for rhetoric. We do NOT need to make an excuse to own guns. We have a constitutional right to have them and that is good enough. Debate over.
