Indeed! And the wages of deception are quite severe in this opera!
Keep Faith with the Fallen of Benghazi! Let the Obama Regime, for once, tell the Truth!
Fiat Justitia, Ruat Coelum!
Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Thanks very much, Kathy!
***HUGS***
Coming aboard as we speak. Rendering Hand Salutes to our National Colors and to the Officer of the Deck!
And, as always, it is an honor and pleasure to play tunes for our Troops. Some of them must have a taste as idiosyncratic as my own. :)

My first band was a blues Band. We had a nice, well-paying gig on Nantasket beach, but halfway through the first set, I realized it was a whorehouse! Nothing was ‘going on” in the room where we were playing, but the customers kept leaving with the same women over and over again!
I was mortified, but kept singing (the show must go on!) and recognized that i was well within the tradition of Scott Joplin, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson, etc.
I guess that was the turning point in me becoming a TRUE Blues singer! LOL!

The Ragtime Dance was a work that gestated over several years.
Scott Joplin had written it in 1902 as a sort of dance show. He privately staged it that year for John Stark with a group of dancers and himself on piano, conducting an orchestra and handling spoken narration. Stark wasnt impressed, although his daughter prevailed on him to publish the piece. It didnt sell.
In 1906, Joplin turned 38, and he ended his marriage with Belle, spending the year in Texarkana and Chicago. Back in St. Louis, Stark attempted to recoup his losses on The Ragtime Dance by issuing a condensed version of the piece, and it sold well enough.
Joplin: The Ragtime Dance
Whatever faults of this video, he has the march nailed.
Antoinette
At the end of the year, Joplin decided to move to New York. His opera, A Guest of Honor, was placed in a trunk that was to be sent to New York with his other belongings. The trunk and opera disappeared, never to be seen again.

Gunther Schuler, President of the New England Conservatory of Music, helped revitalize ragtime back in the 70’s. I used to see them regularly at Jordan Hall. My Husband were to Northeastern and the Conservatory was nearby. It was a cheap night out...and VERY Wonderful!
