Woo hoo!!
I made it to be around 30mins and that we were some how synced with Newfoundland time.
Thanks Jim and John, this is where I come to get the “real” news.
Bug off troll. Been here for what, 10 days or so, and pontificating on things you know _nothing_ about? Alamogirl’s site doesn’t _need_ to be updated. It still does exactly what it was meant to. And, in addition, it also represents the kind of hardcore information that all FReepers should know. I could go on and on about this, but I doubt you want to know the truth, do you?
Thought it might be my WEBTV/MSNTV system, and vowed to call WEBTV Support today to check it out.
I didn’t let my mind think ‘conspiracy’ too much - LOL!
Except I was feeling sorry not to have SOMEone’s phone number, address, or something - - - we all just disappear sort of - - - Expect some Freepers have each others ‘personal’ info, if only to check out times like this!
Free Republic is the only WEB Page I know of that is so easy to maneuver. Appreciate that. Most other WEB sites throw WEBTV totally off-line, even shutting off the TV! The fancier other WEB pages have gotten, the less WEBTV can get to them. Not enough Flash.
I was so down not reading FR.
Something else. Did I once read a Freeper
recommending going to Canada Free Press if FR ever goes down?
Could I expect CFP to say somewhere that Free Republic is down - ?
Really - we/I think it’s something wrong with my system rather than at the source, spending much time pondering!
Thankful for whatever it takes to get FR up and running again. : )
Thank you!
Wow this site was missed dearly!!!!!!!!!!
Credible, fast-breaking news remains the hallmark of FR along with informed, well-written opinion. The carefully-crafted, handwritten software behind the scenes is in a class of its own. There simply is nothing to compare to the "ping" feature that enhances the dialog in a thread. And, as I've stated before, the clean design with an absence of needless clutter (JavaScript, Flash, and gratuitous graphics) keeps FR at the very top in terms of performance and ease of navigation. The Perl code driving much of the user experience is robust and time-tested. The HTML passes every validation test I've exposed it to.
Sure there's an occasional hardware hiccup but the core components that constitute Free Republic are second to none. Yes, other sites have their childish avatars, a crayon book of colors and other sugary eye-candy. But when it comes to the fundamentals: Content is King and FR still does it better than anywhere else. How can anyone not be impressed with what occurs here year after year on a consistent basis while other sites vanish into the ether after they make their initial splash. Indeed, the chronicle of our era is made possible by Free Republic.
Well, it sure is good to have our old friend back for news, commentary and an unabashed policy of being pro-God, pro-life and pro-gun, the foundations of the real America.
Wooohooo!!! Life can get back to normal now!!
Am I logged in?????
Wow this site was missed dearly!!!!!!!!!!
****************
3 days, 3 hours, 23 minutes is a long time to not be able to read the news that has been gathered into one location for discussion and dissemination as is done here on FR. It’s not the same scouring the net, imo.
Concur.
FR is easy to maneuver, esp for WEBTV users.
Refer to post 145. . .
Thank you. I can now admit. I need help. Addiction is a behavior not a disease.
Are you over the age of 12? I think not since it's clear that you favor style over substance, a trait shared by many children. As you mature, you'll find that Free Republic is unsurpassed when it comes to content and informed opinion.
This is where a significant proportion of America found out about 9/11. It's where the Columbia Space Shuttle disaster was covered in detail well before the mainstream media. Free Republic was the force that got Dan Rather fired. Sarah Palin's selection to join the 2008 ticket was first mentioned right here. The great Tony Snow (RIP) was a FReeper.
While there's always room for improvement, it would serve you well to think long and hard about the valuable resource that's afforded by America's premiere site for thoughtful Conservatives. If eye candy is all that appealing to you, invest in a paint-by-numbers kit. Free Republic was, is and will always be as close to perfection as possible modulo the inevitable hardware defects -- that's just entropy. As for the software side and the overall user experience, it's without question the very best bar none.
Jim Thompson can do anything! Thank you both!!!
That must have been a long shower.
Thank you very much, re_nortex!!
Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home.
And thank you all very much!!
FReepers are absolutely the greatest!!
Thank you so much Jim and John!
I really appreciate Freeper..it is a big part of my life and I realized more than ever in the last few years.
What so many “brilliant critics” do not understand...this is a labor of love for you guys, a patriotic expression of your love of freedom and of our country.
Freeper has snags sometimes but it is not a huge corprate conglomerate like Microsoft or Google. Which is what makes it so free. All the great internet ‘start ups” began with a man who had an idea, worked very, very hard to create and keep going with that idea...Apple, Facebook, etc. In the beginning it was an idea of one individual.
And Freeper is that entrepenurial manifestation of freedom and individuality and a belief that if I try hard enough and want it bad enough, I can make my dream happen.
And yes, Jim and John....
YOU BUILT THAT!
I was starting to get kinda squirrely, definitely first stage withdrawal setting in...
Thanks for all you do to keep us more or less sane.
Regards,
GtG
LOL! Thank you very much, Recovering Ex-hippie!!
And yes, Jim and John....
YOU BUILT THAT!
That was superbly stated and expressed what so many of us think. As you said, it all started with the creative spark (as well as brains, toil and persistence) of one man. And it shows what can happen in a land where free enterprise and liberty are cherished. Without getting too sappy, Free Republic is a daily inspiration to me. When life's vicissitudes and obstacles come my way, I think of the considerable hurdles that this site's founder had to face (and still has to overcome being wheelchair bound). It helps me realize that perseverance and a can-do spirit can conquer all.
