EDITORIAL: Huddled masses in retirement Elderly immigrants are becoming wards of the state
The Washington Times ^ | Feb 15, 2013 | Editorial

Entitlement spending and immigration are two issues that threaten America’s financial future. The two controversies meet in the case of the newly arrived elderly, many of whom have discovered they can cash in on an overly generous welfare system.

The scam is simple. Senior immigrants typically live with their foreign-born adult children who already have gained their U.S. citizenship. After five years of green-card status, the parents can apply for citizenship. From 2000 through 2011, about a million persons aged 60 or over were granted citizenship, accounting for about 13 percent of total naturalizations.

Often, the immigrant children are highly educated and quite well off, living in upscale homes and driving expensive cars. Their elderly parents’ standard of living is often well above that of most Americans, thanks to their children’s hard-earned success.

The only factor considered is income, and language and distance barriers render it nearly impossible for U.S. authorities to verify whether they have income in their home country.

Medicaid for recent, elderly immigrants is practically a given. They frequently take advantage of Section 8 housing benefits, which can provide an extra place to stay on weekends after keeping an eye on the grandkids during the weekdays. Elderly immigrants crowd waiting lists for Section 8 housing to the extent that the lists get closed to new applicants, resulting in a particularly perverse outcome: Many of those shut out are genuinely poor.

How much more will an amnesty for 12 to 20 million illegl aliens add to these costs? Once legalized, the lawbreakers will be able to bring in their aged parents thru chain migration, i.e., family reunification.

This isn’t some recent discovery. The word is passed along in Mexican villages everywhere.

Go up north for retirement, them Yankees are suckers.
While you are at it demonstrate for La Raza.
Get yourself a driver’s license and medical health care.

And Yes the Amnesty program will bring new hordes into our country, while Obama voters collect unemployment, and welfare and food stamps and the rest of us have to pay for it.

Think about that when you want Rubio for President.

These aren't likely to be the parents of illegals from Mexico or Latin America, for the most part. Are they referring to immigrants from India or Asia?

Reported this issue to Howie Carr 10 years ago. visiting nurse friend was charged with patients in Brighton, MA ... all turned out to be Russians who were getting free housing, medical, food stamps, furniture and appliances, etc.

also reported that people living in the projects had late model cars

turns out MA state legislature was providing these illegal immigrants cars at our expense

I’ve known several people, mostly visa overstayers, who have had elderly relatives visit when their hometown doctor determined that they were seriously ill. The relatives visit, go to the local US hospital, claim a lack of funds, and get US hospital treatment for free.

How much more will an amnesty for 12 to 20 million illegl aliens add to these costs?

From a Boston Herald story in June 2012: The report, a letter from Health and Human Services Commissioner Aron Boros last week to an Andover lawmaker who has been dogging the state for health cost data, says people without documents racked up $118 million in medical bills from October 2010 through September 2011, paid for through the state's Health Safety Net program funded by taxpayers, insurance ratepayers and hospitals and intended for the state's indigent residents.

That's one state, one year. On a national level...

NJ has these scammers from all over the globe; it is destroying the country financially and leaving nothing for those paying for it now.

The Chinese in San Francisco got this figured out years ago. Just as the article state, most of their children are large property owners in the city, but their parents are living off entitlements.

It’s a scam alright. When I lived in Calif. an illegal alien senior got several hundred $ a month more than I did from SS, after working my entire life. Calif, and other states actually give them CASH! Calif. cut all sorts of citizen welfare, but they didn’t get rid of the senior illegal alien cash handouts.

This massive government spending program is what so called “conservative” GOP like Marco Rubio and Rand Paul are pushing with Illegal Alien Amnesty.

All who support Amnesty want big government. You cannot do Amnesty without big government.....we do not have enough money for benefits...nor enough manpower to fight off those who aren’t getting benefits.

You are correct. I see tons of elderly Chinese at the Social Security office, many who speak no English.

The abuse of our system is rampant by the foreigners and native-born, that’s why we are in such terrible shape.

Government spending will be the reason and NO POLITICIAN wants to be “the harsh one” when the Liberals are screaming for “Social Justice” which is paying a group of bureaucrats for life to steal money from the productive and redistribute it to the entitled classes of all stripes.

Immigrants should get NADA for 10 years.

Are you at work? That’s how she is surviving.

If the US goes bust, then the Globalists can re-tool the world’s currency and economy to a Marxist State where the productive will directly fund places like Mexico, Afghanistan and Somalia.

You will work under a Global Tax system and the Muslim-dominated UN will determine need.

It will be a fine day with no food, no fuel, no cars, no jobs, no real laws, and a police state (drones, internet monitoring, cameras) and massive Government bureaucracies for your healthcare and civic functions...all disarmed, of course.

No borders. No liberty. It’s what Daddy Soros wants and his Fed cronies...I could care less what people think about my tin foil hat, if you cannot see the way things are going, you are blind.

Cloward-Piven to hollow out our economy, then the real fun begins.

One world government, one world currency, no borders, one world standard of living, one world religion. Any questions?
