All semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines would be banned, all guns would be registered and no ammunition could be bought without a special permit in California under a sweeping list of bills rolled out Thursday by state Senate Democrats.
The 10-bill package constitutes the single largest gun control push in decades in the Golden State, which already boasts some of the nation's strictest gun laws. It joins equally controversial proposals from Assembly Democrats that would regulate and tax ammunition sales and consider taking the state's 166,000 registered assault weapons from their owners.
This first unified California plan comes less than a month after New York adopted its own sweeping package of new gun controls and President Barack Obama announced a package of executive actions, all in the wake of December's Connecticut schoolhouse massacre. Even as this plan emerged Thursday, House Democrats' gun violence task force was announcing 15 "policy principles," including protecting Second Amendment rights but also instituting universal background checks and reinstating a federal assault weapons ban.
"We respect the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens to have guns for hunting, for sport,

proliferation of guns designed to be fired and reloaded rapidly," he said. "We can save lives by getting guns and ammunition out of the hands of the wrong people. We can save lives if every gun owner knows how to safely handle those guns. And if we can save lives, we must act to do so."
Gene Hoffman of Redwood City, co-founder and chairman of the Calguns Foundation gun rights group, countered that "almost every item in the proposal is wildly unconstitutional."

Always.
How does the ancient saying go? Molon Labe?
They’re already ranked #1 by the Brady bunch.
Are they worried that NJ and Mass are catching up?
I have a different memory of these events. AG Dan Lungren silently refused to enforce this law and self registration was completely ignored by the gun owners of Cal. It had the state Dems in an uproar for years. Dan held up his hands, shrugged, and stonewalled....
Dan Lungren later became a US Rep, one of the House’s more Conservative members. He became a thorn in the Dem’s side especially Pelosi’s.... She targeted Dan’s seat, along with 9 other seats held by Conservatives for defeat by lefty losers and the Dems spent huge amounts of money trying to turn the district.
After 6 years of trying with no success, Dan’s district was redistricted and he lost to a crackpot Democrat far lefty named Amni Bera, who had been hand picked by Pelosi 4 years ago, losing his first attempt in 2010. No problem a little redistricting and voter fraud solved that!
No wonder we continuely lose we keep eating our own.....I know about me..... but are you sure you’re a Conservative?????
It seems the progressive gust from the bombastic, bellowing foghorn finally made its way to the West Coast.
I should move to Reno, Vegas, or Yuma and open up an ammo store......
The gangs are exempted from this law.
MS 13 and their likes have gotta be loving this.

California gun sales jump; gun injuries, deaths fall
Gun deaths and injuries have dropped sharply in California, even as the number of guns sold in the state has risen, according to new state data...

I’m about as far right as right gets and I do remember Lundgren publicly saying the confiscation was off the table during his effort to get the other legislators and the public to go along with the plan to register all SKSs. I’m not exactly sure of the time frame from when registration was implemented to the time Lungren informed the state that all SKS rifles had to be turned in to local PDs and what the consequences would be if one was found to have one in their possession. With that, are you saying that the SKS confiscation by the state of CA did not happen nor that AG Dan Lungren was not involved in orchestrating and carrying out the plan that resulted in the confiscation of those weapons? Admittedly, that was a long time ago and I don’t recall the minute details but I do recall clearly the out come and it happened under Wilson’s and Lungrenâs watch. Any perceived resistance to it by Lungren was a joke but it sure shed light on the kind of person he is. How far do you think you can toss ole Dan boy?
No, she and I have had a conversation about her moving and how hard it is to move. She would prefer to move several years from now, but these new laws could push up that move. Maybe you are younger and it's not so hard for you to move. We older folks go into spasms thinking about moving. Plus, the older you get, the more stuff you have and the harder it is to move it - plus, ammo weighs a lot. :p)
Gee, I’m surprised of the talk of confiscation.
They tried to pull this with AB 962 and a couple years back.
“...The lawsuit successfully sought the declaration from the Court that the statute was unconstitutional, and successfully sought the injunctive relief prohibiting law enforcement from enforcing the new laws.
The lawsuit alleged, and the Court agreed, that AB 962 is unconstitutionally vague on its face because it fails to provide sufficient legal notice of what ammunition cartridges are “principally for use in a handgun, and thus is considered “handgun ammunition that is regulated under AB 962. It is practically impossible, both for those subject to the law and for those who must enforce it, to determine whether any of the thousands of different types of ammunition cartridges that can be used in handguns are actually “principally for use in or used more often in, a handgun. The proportional usage of any given cartridge is impossible to determine, and in any event changes with market demands. In fact, the legislature itself is well aware of the vagueness problem with AB 962’s definition of “handgun ammunition” and tried to redefine it via AB 2358 in 2010.
AB 2358 failed in the face of opposition from the NRA and CRPA based on the proposals many other nonsensical infringements on ammunition sales to law abiding citizens...”

I'm starting to think there needs to be a mental wellness check and registration/licensing proving they passed before someone can run for office in the state of California.
“Will the California Minutemen be ready?”
If you’re talking about organizing conservatives, the answer is no.
Conservatives have no idea that self-defense starts locally. Conservatives don’t attend local village, local county or local schoolboard meetings because they’re too busy barbecuing ribs, going fishing and worshipping mammon.
Want proof?
1. Local property taxes are sky-high because conservatives can’t be bothered to show up at county board meetings.
2. Conservatives can’t cut down trees on their property without permission of government because they’re too lazy to attend village council meetings.
3. Conservative kids are taught that Marxism is cool because conservatives can’t be bothered to attend local schoolboard meetings.
This communist hell raining down on California is the result of conservatives sitting on their fat asses for 40 years, while the leftists sent their troops to take over. And you did nothing.
I think gun ownership cuts across political parties, religious affiliations (or lack of) and economic classes. I think our leftist nanny state legislators, may be in a rude jackasses out.
The very fact that the leftists feel safe enough to step out from behind the mask they have been hiding behind since they got their butts handed to them in 94 is evidence that freedom and liberty are gone. They will pass this, if not now, then incrementally. They will not stop until they destroy everything or are killed. I’m not advocating anything, just stating what history has proven time and time again.
Ping!
