Here we go with another freak out about a winter storm. From naming it like a hurricane to generate more angst, to the continuing reminders that it "COULD" be a top ten storm in all time history, the weather guessers are doing the hype dance.
Granted, this one looks particularly nasty, but most sane people will grab some extra milk and get home early Friday before the main bands hit.
Take cover NE FReepers and keep us updated on how it's coming along.
Post lots of pics from your yards and neighborhoods so we can all OOOOH and AHHHH at the precip!!
Above all, stay safe, get off the roads early!!
Hi! Yes indeed. Stay happy and safe tomorrow we will all be well!
Unless CL&P doesn’t turn our power on in a week;)))
My sentiments too. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
And after that a perhaps a heavy ice storm to coat all the tree branches and power lines -- along with high winds to drive it all to the ground.
Been running the a/c pretty much all day today. Grass is still brown but the weeds are nice and green.
How about before satellite weather, you just got the storm, no 3 day build-up, no flops, it snowed when it snowed and people were smart enough to keep supplies on hand, after all it was winter, no french toast and tp rush.
2 ft? Pfft. A trifle. We had five feet in a couple days in Syracuse back in ‘66. Mom and Dad ran out of smokes and sent us kids trudging to the mailbox at the end of the sub division where some friends had deposited several packs.
Now I go to the Sierras to see 40 foot snowfalls.
So I get this alert on my SometimesSmartPhone from the weather people who are sometimes accurate... Says we have a winter storm watch for Friday into Saturday. Said weather prognosticators mention that we could expect an accumulation of 10 to 14 inches of fluffy globull warming accompanied by a trace of solid globull warming which will posit itself on all exposed surfaces. Like the porch. And the walk. And the drive. Sounds like I get to see if my old John Deere Globulwarming Blower will work one more time...
Even more interesting is that bloviators such as Algore and his ilk somehow in their twisted logic proclaim in their best ‘The Sky Is Falling’ voice that this is proof of - yep - globull warming. I have lived through, oh, at least a handfull of years and have observed cycles of massive globull warming accumulations, and years when it was 68 degrees (F) on Christmas day and it most certainly was not a white Christmas.
You know what? Back before some shyster pseudo-scientists discovered that they could get a bunch of Government Grants (i.e. your and my money) by fudging the facts and creating a nonexistent crisis, we had strange weather patterns. Real research shows that it has been happening that way for, oh, millennia. Before these pseudoscientists told us that we had to give them more of our money, drive Government Motors Dolts, use corn as fuel instead of food, and put up windmills that don’t feed the grid to any significant level (but DO kill a lot of birds) we knew what this really was...
And we called this.... Winter.
You’re welcome. After I have shared a bit of my childhood history with my youngest grandson, he always says, “And that was a tale from Grams about life in the olden days”.
Already happens. We had “Clark” come through this evening here in Central Indiana. (just kidding ..... probably)
But not Mayor Dumbberg of NYC. With one side of his mouth, he tells the public not to drive unless absolutely necessary, and with the other side of his lying pus-filled mouth, he insists that NYC public schools remain open. What about the transportation HOME from school? By then, the storm will be well under way, there well might be whiteout conditions, and the roads will be hazardous to travel. Typical dumba@@ move by this cretin.
I thought the chillren in NYC all got transit passes... Major Dumburg wants them to ride the muggermovers to get home... ;-)
I remember having to literally take my life in my hands driving over sheer glazed ice to get to school about a decade ago. Upon arrival, I found the few kids who had made it had been herded into the auditorium to watch a feature film, as too many faculty had not been able to make it in to hold classes. Three-quarters of the students hadn't come in, either. And yet, he refused to close schools.
Actually as of 11pm ET, it was upgraded to "Blizzard Charlotte"
I don't remember the Blizzard of 78 as being that bad for me personally - I don't think we lost power (lived in the East Hartford/Glastonbury area back then). I remember how we were all stunned that Gov. Ella Grasso shut down all the highways for two days. Don't remember how much snow we got, but there was a lot of blowing and drifting of the snow, piling "mountains" of snow up against the house.
The December 1973 Ice Storm was horrific, as bad as last year's freak October snow storm, except MUCH colder - we had no lights or heat for over a week... every tree was damaged by the heavy ice, tree limbs and downed power lines littered every street. Some streets were impassable for days. We had to leave water running from the faucets so the pipes wouldn't freeze.
There were many - maybe hundreds - of out-of-state and Canadian power trucks all over the Hartford area, slowly restoring power block by block. Our lights came back on just a few days before Christmas (thank you Hydro Quebec line crews!). I'll never forget how happy my family and I were to see our house and the entire neighborhood all lit up again for Christmas after so many days in the cold and darkness.
New England Cable Network, AKA Eastern Massachusetts Cable Network.
The sodomites in Provincetown, MA have a target painted on their back this morning...
...keeps us from talking about Benghazi or Staten Island...
Look for the principles to just send the kids home early or the parents NOT to send the kids to school.
Follow the money. They wouldn’t get a chunk of their all-important state and especially Federal $$$ if they didn’t keep the schools open.
