Obama: Boy Scouts should admit gays and lesbians, opportunity should be open to all

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says the Boy Scouts of America should open its membership to gays and lesbians when its national executive board discusses the issue this week.

Obama praised the scouts as “a great institution” that promotes young people, giving them lifelong leadership training and opportunities. During a pre-Super Bowl interview on CBS, he said “no one should be barred from that.”

The Boy Scouts announced last week it was considering replacing its longstanding ban on gays with a policy to let troop sponsors make their own decision on the issue.

I don’t have a problem with homo boys joining the Scouts, and learning the scout ways (but not outwardly acting out such tendencies-don’t ask, don’t tell), but no way for the leaders. And of course, no homo females-go to the Girl Scouts.

My Unit (Troop) has a connection to the District and Council - but I’ve never seen the purpose of the relationship - other than chartering.

Frankly, evertime someone from the District comes by, I think “Here goes another fund-raiser speech.” They serve no significant purpose.

My Troop is very highly associated with its sponsoring church. Discipleship is the principle mission of our Troop and Pack. Our aim is to build men who know God and are well-grounded in their Christian walk.

I guess what I’m saying is this: If we risk losing our Charter because we do not comply with the change in the national organization, we will go solo. Not much will really change.

The BSA and GSA are both Title 36 organizations with a Congressional Charter and the exclusive right to the word “Scouts” in their organizational name. The WikiPedia article on the BSA has a paragraph on this detail.

But neither the BSA nor the GSA have exclusive right to the word "scouting."

I believe Obama meant — Lesbians for the Girl Scouts and Homos for the Boy Scouts. Of course, not one press member will DARE ask him to clarify what he meant ( other than folks from Breitbart, but these guys are banned from asking him any questions ).

If the national board votes to allow gays, the names of every one who voted "yes" must be recorded. At some future time when a boy is molested by a gay admitted under the policy, the names of every board member must be added to the criminal indictment. Let those who enabled the criminal act be held responsible for the consequences. Let them serve prison terms alongside the perverts they permitted into the scouting organization.
