My husband I just ended our debate about having children. To breed or not to breed, this was the question and it had been ticking like an egg timer in the back of my head for 15 years.
We talked about it for five months. In the car on the way to work. During dinner. For five minutes, for 30 minutes. After seeing nephews and nieces.
I wanted it to be a decision we made, not one made for us by chance or time. I turned to friends with kids for advice. Feel free to convince me to your side, I told them. Leaving a legacy and crazy joy, they said. I bow down to their personal sacrifice. It is an enormous gift for society to raise an educated, productive, ethical, moral child.
On our last vacation, my husband and I mulled over this question: On your deathbed, what will you regret not doing? We listed our answers at dinner on the last night. Neither of us mentioned children...

She and her hubby should get fixed. At least they won’t murder an innocent child on their way down to hell.
Good. Don’t breed another bone-headed communist sucker.
Lack of offspring from this moron is no great loss!
Works for me.
Leaving: Christians who had larger families.
Impact: society saved in about 100 years.
Whew. I was getting worried there for a while.
To the leftist beyitch who wrote the Slimes article: Halle-flippn’-Lujah. I am so glad you are not going to procreate.
Michael.SF.: “Now, if we can just convince all the whack-job-libs of this, we would be on the right track.”
I don’t know why you need a sarcasm tag. That sounds like smart thinking to me. We’re better off if more of these libs choose to be genetic Darwin award winners. I guess it hasn’t occurred to them that the future is owned by those who reproduce. If they truly wanted to save the environment, they’d have as many children as possible and indoctrinate them in the cause. Otherwise, who “speaks for the trees,” Lorax-like, in the future?
Doesn’t she realize the great maternal experience she is missing by not getting pregnant, then filming the abortion to watch over & over in her dotage? /sarc
First, I thank her for not producing another lefty child.
Second, I commend her for saving the planet for the many future generations of childless adults to enjoy.
Oh, wait a minute. Something sounds a bit off with my second statement. Can’t quite put my finger on it.
I’m going to take up a collection to buy her one of those suicide machines. Or maybe just a nice long sword.
someone elses “kid” will grow up to be the nursing aide who changes her diapers and feeds her someday in the nursing home, and maybe says “Happy Mother’s Day” as she plumps her pillow
On the other hand anyone who calls having children “breeding” is better off fussing over a cat
Way too much thinking going on here.
I suspect she’s waiting for the comet next winter.
You need read no further than the first sentence. Talking about "to breed or not to breed" says it all!
The fact that this woman writer has been talking about having children for fifteen or more years means that she knows that having and raising children is a good thing to do. She regrets her decision to stay a "teenager" for her whole life.
She is probably already beyond her child bearing years. But have no fear, the question will come up again and again.
There must have thousands of these types of articles written by smug leftists in the last fifty years. Because I remember reading a number of them in the late sixties or early seventies. Hey, you don’t want to have childen, then don’t have them. You want to be a perpetual adolescent and have fun without the little ankle-biters getting in the way. Fine, your life is none of my business. But don’t give me the balderdash about saving the planet please.
That was my first thought!!!!
What a great movie.
That was my first thought!!!!
What a great movie.
“Too many giants of higher culture, in the fields of art, science, philosophy, politics, religion, etc. were childless to mention. “
And that’s a shame. Too many good people don’t have kids, and way too many bad people have plenty.
“Idiocracy” isn’t just a movie, it’s a warning.
I’m sure that some welfare mom will more than make up for it, while broadening the gene pool by producing kids with multiple sperm donors.
