As CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman pointed out Thursday night, none of the eight coaches hired this offseason was of color. In all, teams went 0-for-8 in hiring minorities (or as Freeman wrote, 0-fer-black).
Though the Rooney Rule is in place and does lead to minority candidates legitimately interviewing for head coaching jobs, you also have to wonder how effective that mandate is. Well, the NFL has taken notice and plans to do something about it.
Here's the statement from Robert Gulliver, the NFL's executive vice president of human resources:

Sadly, you are right.
The Ray Rhodes experiment in Green Bay in 1999 was a total bust. It was the black players who openly mocked the guy.
Great idea. A dwarf head coach would be 20% cooler!
“So the primary qualification a team should conisder for a coach is the skin color?
What about the sex?
Why arent there any women coaches?
Why no dwarves?”
If you added Jewish, the team would probably be owned by Jesse Helms.
You don’t win Super Bowl’s with affirmative action hires. You win Super Bowls with proven winners.
This thread really needs the “not this (stuff) again” guy!
Amish coaches would ban pigskin footballs.
hehe
Jews have their current token, Da Bears’ Marc Trestman.
Obama was given a Nobel Peace Prize just because he’s Black...just keep pretending or you’re a racist.
And asians...
Where are all the white basketball players, especially on the Harlem Globetrotters.
Yep that is maddening. Just pure idiocy
Don’t take Kevin Sumlin! Leave him at A&M for awhile!!!!!
MLK’s birthday was Jan 15 until some doofus government types decided to move it to the Monday after the third Sunday in January.
Actually, all eight of the coaches are of color. They are Caucasian.
That’s because AZ hiring made it 13 for 13, all of the head coach and GM vacancies filled by white guys. Which is kind of odd, but I challenge them to find better candidates. Of course that doesn’t stop the whiners.
Tomlin wasn’t a Rooney Rule interview, they’d already had that, and he’s taken them to 2 Super Bowls. I think he’s doing alright.

Tomlin did quite well with the team he inherited. Get back with us in a couple of years when he misses the playoffs multiple years in a row
The affirmative action coaches haven’t turned out so well. The NFL is luckier than other businesses because the government doesn’t sic the EEOC on teams that don’t meet federal quotas for hiring.
Now that the Left has noticed that White coaches are being hired, Obama may do some shake downs to get more Blacks on the side lines. No one ever mentions that Blacks are grossly over-represented on the field, of course. And we won’t even bring up basketball.
He’s been head coach for 6 years. His first trip to the Super Bowl was his second season, given normal NFL turnover more than half that team wasn’t there for Cowher. That’s not inherited, that’s his.
