As CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman pointed out Thursday night, none of the eight coaches hired this offseason was of color. In all, teams went 0-for-8 in hiring minorities (or as Freeman wrote, 0-fer-black).
Though the Rooney Rule is in place and does lead to minority candidates legitimately interviewing for head coaching jobs, you also have to wonder how effective that mandate is. Well, the NFL has taken notice and plans to do something about it.
Here's the statement from Robert Gulliver, the NFL's executive vice president of human resources:

Yeah, I am short and slow, but white. I would like to play for some major bucks.
I don’t recall that. Various sites state “it was first observed on January 20, 1986.”
me too!
Probably just a weird mind association
No Amish coaches either !!!
Also, 8 of the NFL coaches have the same first name, Mike, as does the reporter. Obviously, Mike is getting favorable treatment.
No female coaches.
No Cross gender coaches.
etc etc blah blah!!!!
>>Political correctness has already killed most of the nation. Might as well kill our favorite pastimes as well.
The quest for the “next great black quarterback” has destroyed the Jackosnville Jaguars. They finally gave up that dream last year, but the damage is already done and it will take years for the team to recover.
This is one of the reasons the NFL sucks.
The black head coach affirmative action hiring fetish of the last few years didn’t work out so well for most of the teams who tried it. Most of those guys have been fired, and teams are returning to searching for the best talent first and foremost. Which doesn’t explain why Rex Ryan still has a job, but... :)
Steelers used to have a "best available athlete" policy in the draft. Now it's the "best available black athlete."

I’m willing to wager the NFL front office will force a few teams to hire a black head coach with an agreement that successful teams will make up the falling revenue for the affirmative action teams.
The advent of the “read-option” offense paired with the “spread” offense will provide employment for many college QBs that should be running backs but, coincidentally, can throw a tight spiral. RGIII and Kapernick (sp?) are of the mold.
The average QB career expectancy in the NFL will trend downward and plateau at 5 seasons. QBs will become expendable; teams will be drafting cookie-cutter QBs every year. Some teams may carry 3 or even 4 on their regular season roster all capable of running the offense without skipping a beat.
The good news? QB contracts will be devalued.
Translation, the quality of head coaches and executive positions will soon degrade. With these idiotic systems in place even the most qualified minority will increasingly be viewed as a diversity hire.
I blame the Rooneys. Not the old man, the younger generation.
We suffered with that young, drug addicted, rumored to be homosexual, black quarterback for how many years?!
Meanwhile we passed on quality QB's and let talent (no matter the skin color) at all positions slip away.
The Rooney Rule killed the Steelers if not the NFL!
Though I love football, I’m getting pretty tired of the NFL and how they kiss liberal butt.
We now have politically correct tackling. If helmets clash when two players go down it’s a penalty on the defense.
If they keep this stuff up they are going to ruin this great game.
