This is one article worth perserving for the sake of real history. When our grandchildren ask us what happened to a once great nation, this will be but one example of how a cult of personality was used from within to destroy it. A reporter cannot be unbiased if they are swooning over whoever they are meeting. Sort of reminds one of the adulation heaped upon Der Fuhrer by the German (and I might add some of the American) press in the 30’s. Hitler was the man, the father figure, the all knowing all loving provider of everything good for the German volk, until the trains started running full to the east on a regular basis but for some unexplained reason always came back rather empty.

The Holocaust has been discussed richly, but few know about the mechanisms of control in Japan over the press —it was ALL informal. There were almost NO formal laws dictating what the press could not say before and during their war in Asia and on the USA.
They said informal rules were WAY more effective than laws, because it never created, “censorship heroes”. You couldn’t speak up publicly because you’d get stabbed to death, and no one would say anything.

I remember reading somewhere that the “reporters” on the Kennedy campaign in 1960 would join in singing detrimental songs about Nixon, lead by Robert Kennedy. Such is the media: they are truly whore-ish.
