Government spending is the No. 1 problem in America, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said he wont rule out a government shutdown if President Barack Obama refuses to address the countrys growing fiscal woes.
We now have a debt the size of our economy, which makes us look a lot like Greece, McConnell said Sunday on NBCs Meet the Press. Its a shame that the president doesnt embrace the effort to reduce spending.
When host David Gregory asked McConnell about the debt ceiling, and whether Republicans would consider a government shutdown to force the issue of spending cuts, the leader did not rule out the possibility.

They’ve been threatening this for a long time and never follow through. To hell with ‘em.
Ichabod is playing like he has some balls, even though everyone knows differently.
When is this clown up for reelection? Up in Ga, Chambliss has been speaking of late about how tough a conservative he is. He is hearing the rattle of being primaried. Funny how these guys get religion just before being challenged.
The good news here in Florida was two nobody’s in No Fla beat out RINO GOPers for Congress in 2012 and a relatively unknown state senator, Rubio, clobbered Crist in 2010 both in a primary and in an election.
I hope these trends continue nationally because something has to be done with the libs and RINOs ruining this country.
Agreed. Why wasn’t government shut down last week?
At this point, I don’t believe anything they say. Assuming we do have elections again, the whole lot of them, Republican and Democrat, should be tossed out.
This is the usual dog and pony show. All we ever see are threats and surrender. I do not believe that McConnell or most of the GOP leadership have the testicles to tell the Dear Leader to take a hike.
This man is NO LEADER! I believe he gets more animated taking a crap!
Hey Mitch: “Money talks and the bull sh*t you’re full of walks”!
Oh, BULL CRAP!
How many times do these limp-wristed, gutless POS pansies think they can pretend like they have a set? Coming from this turtle-faced mumbling moron makes it even more ridiculous, especially given his latest capitulation to the communists... absolutely pathetic.
At this point, shutting down the government is not just a possibility. It is a requirement. We will have no future if we let these crooks steal what little we have left.
LOL. This isn’t even red meat. More like rotisserie chicken for the GOP base.
All old Mitch really wants is a deal and a piece of the spending pie.
If he cared anything for the country outside of the beltway he would resign immediately. He is totally compromised and unable to effectively oppose the marxists.
Ol' Mitch got kicked in the groin by Reid so much he wears his on his neck, as you can see in this photo:
Repubs caving in 3 - 2 - 1.
Hey, Mitch!
Stop talkin’ about it, and start shuttin’ it down. Pull the funding for every damn department, bureau, office and program.
Get serious about it...
No worry about a shutdown. Zero has already promised to use the 14th amendment or mint a trillion dollar coin to spend as much as he wants, whenever he wants.
McConnell was just kidding to stave off a primary challenge. If McConnell gets out of line and a shutdown is really threatened, zero will just make him disappear. All zero’s actions will be upheld by John Robert’s kangaroo court.
I agree...this McConnell comes across as a mumbling idiot. Maybe a little liquored up. After his interview with David Gregory this morning, he prolly went out to lunch with Dave, and Harry Reid, and Shumer, and Axelrod, etc. I found out during the Clinton era, that , the Dems and Repubs would be "verbally fighting" and calling each other names in front of camera, BUT WHEN THE CAMERAS WERE TURNED OFF AND PUT AWAY, THESE "enemies: were all off to a MORTONS STEAK house type restaurant for steaks and drinks! Ha Ha, we were fooled. Again ha Ha on us! It's just one big club.
I’m sure the Dems are shaking in their boots:) They’re laughing like we are at this hollow display of bravado. Weepers and whiners at the GOP out number the strong.
I can stand to lose an election. But I’m embarrassed at the spineless representatives and their comments that go nowhere.
If he were honest, he wouldn’t use the term “spending cuts” when the truth is they’re only talking about a slightly smaller increase in spending.
Oh the media is hard at work...
POLITICO frames the debate this way for their masters:
http://www.politico.com/blogs/politico-live/2013/01/mcconnell-doesnt-threaten-default-153429.html?hp=f2
“McConnell wouldnt say on Sunday whether he was prepared to shoot the hostage and allow the country to default on its loans ...a move which would result in the nation defaulting on its loans and prompt a government shutdown”
Stephanopoulos on phone to WH: “Yes, David. I’ll say ‘Shoot the hostage’ verbatim just like you told me. Don’t I always say exactly what you tell me?”
