Feds phase out more light bulbs in 2013
KVUE ^

HOUSTON -- At the Light Bulb Depot near his home in The Heights, Randy Gingrich just bought another batch of florescent bulbs. “Since I started three years ago, I haven’t replaced a compact fluorescent yet,” he says. “So I’m happy with that.” “In my ceiling fans, each one of mine has four lights,” says Allen Tabb, who’s been selling light bulbs for 16 years. “So instead of using 240 watts of electricity, I only use 60 watts of electricity. And I get the same light output.” Sure, fluorescent bulbs are more expensive than old-fashioned incandescent bulbs and some people complain about losing a special glow in their homes. But in the long run, homeowners say they’re cheaper. Besides, pretty soon Americans won’t have much choice. As the New Year arrives, new rules bring the nation closer to the end of the traditional incandescent light bulb. Energy efficiency legislation adopted by Congress and signed by former President George W. Bush in 2007 is gradually phasing out the standard bulbs that have illuminated American homes for more than a century. The new rules have applied to 100 watt bulbs since the beginning of 2012. In 2013, the restrictions have expanded to 75 watt bulbs. In January 2013, the new rules will apply to 60 and 40 watt bulbs.

This is all just part of Agenda 21. It starts slow so people don’t understand what’s happening......how all their freedoms are being restricted.

Same thing with the plastic bottles being outlawed.

If you don’t know what Agenda 21 is Google it.

More expensive CFLs plus the need to drop it off at a collection center when they burn out

Yeah, right, that's where I take mine too.

I have about a dozen CFLs just sitting on a shelf. I stocked up on incandescents the past couple of years. I didn’t mention that the incandescent in the lamp post has an electric eye, so it goes on and off slowly. No big surge to blow the filament.

Americans have the country they DESERVE.

That goes for most FREEPERS too.

I’m sure I’ll be told I hate America first and want the terrorists to win and should just shut up.

I have read about Agenda 21...thanks for the heads up though. Incrementalism is the best means of advancing change unnoticed.

Then why are you buying more of them?

the need to drop it off at a collection center

It would be a shame if people got into the habit of disposing of old CFLs at city hall. It would be an even bigger shame if people accidentally broke the bulb while positioning the HazMat sign.

And if you have lupus, the CFLs will send your skin through the roof.

Lowes and Home Depot are 2 places off the top of my head that takes in used CFL bulbs. I usually wait until I have 4 or 5 burnt out bulbs before I take them and I am usually going there for something else as well. Are you saying you are throwing them in the trash? What about the mercury?

This law, more than most, convinced me that there’s no difference between the GOP and DNC.

Remember, the dipstick who proposed this law was a Republican.

........thousands of people rioted today. The people were throwing cfl bulbs at the military that was enlisted by martial law. The military was ordered to retreat for their safety. The rioters took over the US. .......seems logical doesnt it?

I have long known that the surge is what shortens bulb life, so I put in sliding dimmer switches on our ceiling lights in the house. We have only had one bulb replaced in 2 1/2 years. The table lamp and floor lamps are what are using bulbs. I have a large supply of bulbs that should last us a while.

Boehner gave him the energy committee, but we were assured he had moderated his position.

Isn’t it though? (scam) I always think of that movie “The Island” — where the clones have to keep working, and the elite controllers promise them a chance to win an escape to “the island.”

And migraines and some other things. I have not used the overhead CFLs in my office for years — have two old-fashioned lights to turn on when I get there.

So a business owner who relies on repeat customers is happy that his clients will only have to come in and buy light bulbs once? Is that what I’m reading?

That said - funny, Americans invented the light bulb now you can’t buy an Edison light bulb....

If light bulbs are made in state X and only sold in state X how can FedGov™ regulate that? Intrastate commerce is not regulated.
