Boehner offers to take debt limit off the table

House Speaker John A. Boehner has offered to push any fight over the federal debt limit off for a year, a major concession that would deprive Republicans of leverage in the budget battle but is breathing new life into stalled talks over the year-end fiscal cliff.
The offer came Friday, according to people in both parties familiar with the talks, as part of the latest effort by Boehner (R-Ohio) to strike a deal with President Obama to replace more than $500 billion in painful deficit-reduction measures set to take effect in January.
With the national debt already bumping up against the $16.4 trillion cap set last year, Congress risks a government default unless it acts to raise the debt ceiling in the next few months.
Many Republicans had argued that party leaders should use the threat of default to demand additional spending cuts from Obama. But Boehners offer would head off that potentially nasty fight at least until the end of next year.

Boehner offers to take debt limit off the table = Boehner offers to let Ubama and the rats bankrupt yet another generation of Americans (this time our great-grandchildren) so that the Republicans can have the honor of being blamed for both raising taxes AND pushing granny off a cliff ("spending cuts"). That's some great work, Boehner.
"NOW, you're negotiating!"
To: Ray76
Agreed—he’s either a Democrat mole or as good as one.
He has no business being Speaker.
To: Ray76
This guy is a Democrat mole. He appears to be part of a larger weeper cell of whimpering, hand-wringing dem operatives and stooges. Bawling Boehner behaves too much like the stereotypical sobbing victims-of-evil-Republicans who crawl out of the woodwork when it's time to make dem campaign commercials.
Maybe he was separated at birth from the grieving widower whose wife was "killed" by Romney-Bain.

This has all been for show, the hand-wringing and crying and all.
Boehner is one of the elites and always has been for big Government.
Look into his eyes and you will see a drunk stupid easy bastard willing to get along.
Willing to let the country go and not take responsibility. Does anybody think for one second
that if the Shoe was on the Dems foot that they would be fighting tooth and nail? Damn right they would.
Boehner is always drunk which is what the Dems have on him, and are controlling him.
Demand his resignation and anybody covering for him should also be outed.

Boehner just folded. This was his ace in the hole, and he just surrendered it. The Republic is lost. HAS been lost. I assert that the patient known as the USA went into a coma on November 6, 2008, and finally died on June 28, 2012 -- the day the SCROTUS decided federal purchase mandates were legal.
This? This is all just post-dictatorship cleanup.

I'm wondering if we can make an analogy or extension to Hanlon's razor.
"Never assign to malice that which can be ascribed to stupidity"
to
"...and never ascribe to GOP stupidity that which can be assigned to libelous MSM reporting."
Too often the enemy press misquotes Republicans for fun and profit, and the folks here on FR and elsewhere believe the worst immediately.
Full Disclosure: Not that I trust Weepy Boner any further OR farther than I can throw him, anyway...
Cheers!

And I don't think Boehner is going to be any bulwark against gun control legislation, either. He is bound to fall for some “sensible” gun control legislation rather than legislation that would prohibit gun free zones and provide for the arming and training of teachers and administrators. There is almost no conversation about the benefits of active defense by staff (except for Louie Gohmert).

Those election maps....with all those red, rural counties....is why the DEMS in DC have suddenly started hyperventilating about gun control.....as they begin to recognize the implications for pay back of their voter fraud in November.

Why doesn’t Boner just resign.
Perhaps he could change his political affiliation. If not DemocRAT, then Nerd.

This is what we get for relying on a Statist GOP Establishment that rewards an "it's his turn" line of succession.

My opinion - Boner is just a straw man. He is being paid off by someone to infuriate the conservatives into spitting off the Tea Party to a national party. This will assure democrapic victories in perpetuity.

Obama has won twice now. He RAN on raising taxes AND spending gobs of money we don't have. The public approve of him. Worse, the public not only like him, they WANT to continue to like him and give him every benefit of the doubt. The American public is primed to blame Republicans if their taxes go up, and all the GOP feels it can really do now is avoid a catastrophic political defeat. The American people are simply NOT with us.
Yes, we have the House. Some take solace in that. The ugly truth is we held that purely due to gerrymandering. More people voted for a Democratic House candidate than a Republican one - by over a million votes.
You're right, but that's the ugly truth that nobody wants to face.
We need to eliminate all the national GOP "leaders" who have sold us out and damaged our ability to reach beyond these narrow walls. Starting with Weeping Willow.
After fifteen years as an independent, I'm re-registering as a Republican. They won't listen to us if we're not in their little club, so let's see if they can ignore us when we carry the right little card in our wallets.
