A veteran Democratic lawmaker believes the nation will go along with stronger gun control laws if President Obama exploits the Newtown, Conn., tragedy and nudges Congress to action.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler, who represents portions of New York City, said he was encouraged by Mr. Obamas statement on Friday afternoon that the mass shooting, which claimed the lives of 20 young children, requires meaningful action by Congress, but hopes those words turn into concrete legislation.
These incidents, these horrible, horrible incidents are happening more and more frequently. And they will continue to happen more and more frequently until someone with the bully pulpit, and that means the president, takes leadership and pushes Congress, Mr. Nadler said during an appearance on MSNBCs The Ed Show with Ed Schultz.
Mr. Nadler was asked whether the Newtown tragedy could be the turning point in many Democrats longstanding struggle to enact stronger gun laws.
I think we will be there if the president exploits it, and otherwise well go on to the next incident, Mr. Nadler said.

Yet not one word about the 52 million babies who have had a hole drilled in their skull, their brain sucked out and their bodies burned.
Miserable hypocrites.
The other places you mentioned are armpit cities.
"Chum" is about right.
never let a crisis go to waste, that’s all he’s saying, just worded differently
The feds come to steel our weapons and a whole lot of feds will die.
Going back to institutionalizing the mentally ill is what’s really needed. In the last two weeks, mentally ill people have shot up a mall in Oregon, killing some shoppers, pushed somebody under the subway in New York City, killed a college professor in front of his students with a cross bow, and now killed some thirty people, most of them small children.
And that’s only the assaults that were gruesome enough to get reported nationally.
obozo has already said that he will exploit it!
‘I will use the power of the president to help....’
said obozo yesterday.
obozo has the power to raise the dead, when these dead people don’t inconvenience him!
He also has the power to condemn Americans to death when they are in his way, such as the 4 Americans in Benghazi on 911, 2012!
obama, thy name is ‘exploit’ !
The left is adept at dancing in the blood. And orchestrating tragedy. Waco(Holder was involved in that, too)Fast and Furious, Benghazi, and now, quite likely this. After all, Ayers, Obama’s long time friend said as many as 25 million might have to die before total compliance.

“You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that - it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”

I think so, and our ranks are growing every day. We will prevail.
.
WE 2nd Amendment defenders must use this as OPPORTUNITY to point out that (nearly) ALL of these mass killings take place in “gun free zones”, or “gun banned” areas.
Those who wish to get this type of attention, and thereby get notoriety and commit suicide, invariably choose such areas they know are safe for their dirty work. The remedy which would actually help is exactly the opposite of what the gun-grabbers and fear mongers trumpet incessantly - concealed carry in all of these areas! In this case, allow ALL weapon qualified teachers and school employees to carry, and encourage them to do so. Make federal handouts for education contingent on schools success in having employees who are willing to do so.
I have a “Christmas Party” today. I am certain this subject will come up. I will loudly repeat this.
My “go to” expert on this is John Lott, of “More Guns, Less Crime”. johnrlott.blogspot.com - He was interviewed by Mark Levin yesterday evening, and stated that only one mass killing in the last 30 or whatever years was NOT in a “gun free” or “gun ban” area. The Colorado theater shooter could have chosen 5 theaters closer to his home, but chose the theater that powerfully advertised “no guns allowed”.
Time to get back to common sense and make concealed carry both the law of the land, and the expected practice of law-abiding citizens.
You get the award for post of the day! I like your assessment
I just remember story about a week ago where these street gang guys came up and asked this woman for a cigarette and she told them to get a job. The shot her. She was 21 with a baby. I think that Bloomberg should clean up his own cite before going off demanding the president to do something. He’s admitting he can’t handle the gun problem in NYC.
It is so sad to see young children killed so needlessly and at Christmas time.I can only imagine how the parents feel. Many of those children probably already had presents under the tree, too. Many prayers for them.
For some of the people who are supposed to be leading our country, and the communist media to use a tragedy as this for political gain WITHIN A FEW HOURS makes my blood boil.
Totally agree.
May God comfort the families for their loss and the survivors who will forever be affected.
May God Bless and protect the U.S. and all his followers.
I say remove your kids from ant gun free school, lets ban these propaganda centers that refuse to take it seriously the issues and threats around us.
All they are interested is their funding.
make our schools like the Israeli model.
But then again as soon as we have fortified schools the left will get all in a tizzy it interferes with teaching the children.
Home school is an option.
